After printing the engine code information off of this site I tried to decode what I believe is a sprint engine. So far I have discovered that it is not the correct 4 barrel carb on the engine and the engine code that is stamped on the block pad behind the oil fill tube is as follows. "S R 6871" This doesn't show as any possible engine codes from what I printed off. Does anyone know what this engine is from? Please help. Any other areas I can look to verify what this thing is? Thanks in advance. Jeff
You will need to locate the head casting number under the camshaft housing to determine if it is a Sprint cylinder head. Anything else is a bolt-on and will not make a 1-Bbl into a 4-Bbl Sprint. The Sprint head (with cam & manifolds) is what makes the difference.
There were 4 Sprint head casting numbers. One for each of the 4 production years.
