New 69 Convertible owner here. Thanks for the forum it looks great. Does anyone have a picture of the top down in the well I am sure that mine is not going all the way down?
Thanks Michael
If anyone has a picture they can email it to michael.duffy@agesinc.us
There are a number of different angle shots with the top down on my photobucket.
It should be relatively the same for '69.
And welcome to the site!

Has your car had bodywork done? Check the flange at the top of the rear wheelhouses from the trunk side. The flanges should be bent down, not standing upright, to avoid interference with the top mechanism.
Read the long bar on the side of the top frame. It will have a three letter stamping on it. That will tell if you have a power or manual frame. If a manual frame is used with power cylinders, or a power frame with manual springs, positioning and stress issues will result.
Look for binding of materials in the frame when folding. Specifically the pads on each side, when the frame is 3/4 of the way down no fabric or padding should be pinched in the frame.

several tops go down differently....some has to do with the thickness of top material.... mine is a manual top, that once was made to power, when I bought it ,it had stress cracks in the frame ,which I had welded, then turned back to manual, but it still has the cylinders..it goes way down ,more than anybodys I have seen...mine is ubnder the edge, some are even , some stick way up... not sure I have a pic that shows it ,but will look...

It looks like an abyss....Is that a trick shot, and are you a Magician Bjorn?
no trick shot.....it really goes down that low...makes it look theres no top at all, but gets me great view in the rear view mirror , vs my friends 67 thats waaay to high , I think ...see here. and you can see my car again ,parked next to it.

How can that top sit so high on your friends '67 and the boot doesn't pucker around the back? When my top doesn't stack up just right and the boot is streched, it puckers all around the back. All other 1st gens I have seen seem to be the same. That pic of the '67 just looks wierd.
LOL, very few of my friends have actually seen my top...only goes up if caught in a shower! but ,yes I DO have a top...here its parked in the garage after a cruis when that happened, as you can see , theres dirt on my rear quarters from driving in the rain (doesnt happen often ,but it does happen)
my friend Andys...its weird...he HAD a rear window glass first ,but even after replaced it sticks up...his boot is custom, is stiched to the top and snaps onto the molding with similar snaps as on the sides where the mechanism disappears...
but the "average" between our tops is probably close to "standard" ...lol
but again , thicker top material will make it take more space...when I had mine installed , my upholstery guy suggested thinner vs thicker ,for it to take less space...afterall, he said, you are not up in the north with cold and snow...maybe thats whay mine takes less room?
I found a pic of another 69 in the group. he has a Robbins cloth top but stays in a pretty "normal" position when down...sorry if its kinda not focused, but it was taken at about 80 +- MPH...
