Car was painted about 8 years ago. Here is the only rust issue noted. It seems to be in the channel between the dutchman panel and 1/4 below the rear window.
Does this look like a big deal or no?
Plus the vinyl top under the rear window is coming up at the seam as seen here.
Not a big issue by itself. That was the first place on my 67 to start rusting.... back in 1981! Consider yourself lucky! Depends how bad it is, is how that bodyman corrected it last time...
I'd rather see a rust bucket on the road, than a garage queen anytime!!
I would say the bubble in the seam is an issue. As well, the cordova top coming up is an indicative sign there are underlying issues under the top. If neither is addressed, the damage will of course escalate. I would bet money that if the cordova top was removed, it's ugly head would show under the trim and around the sail panel areas.
Better to negotiate a price $500-800 lower than asking if you want the car. The removal 9if required) and repair of that panel, if salvageable would run you $4-500. The removal of the filler is not typically necessary and can be done on car. Add another $100 for the top and unknown amount to repair/correct the damages under the top. The repairs will be more expensive if you choose to not replace the top as there may be a lot of work and filler material needed as well as labor.
I know...had to have my rear filler seams re soldered and repainted. My 67 is showing the same.

I would also guess that the rust is in the window channel along with under the vinyle top in different places. The rust on the tulip panel and upper quarter is hard to fix bacause it goes into the seam. My car had the same issues. I put in a new tulip panel but it is nearly impossible to spot weld it back in like they did at the factory. I welded mine up solid like on the convertibles.
The vinyl top coming off seems like a big red flag. The car has this bubble, the vinyl top coming off that area between the dutman and the rear window + the rear window moulding seems not tight and conformed to the window and sticking up and out in places.
Just a reminder that this is a pretty common spot for rust on these cars. Even more so with the vinyle top. It thats all that it has your doing a lot better than I am.
I'm checking out this car to buy, so I'm looking to see if I should move on to another one.
If there is rust here, based on this having the normal firebird rust issues, is there rust in the lower 1/4 or along the bottom of the doors? Plus the vinyl top can cover a world no no good!
Banshee gave me an idea of the cost to fix, just wondering if I can fix it and then have that area sprayed without having to have the whole 1/4 to the door resprayed?
