Questions:

1. will long tube headers hang down too low on my 68 firebird to where they will drag (I am going with Doug's headers)

2. Do the Deport (16 heads) have hardened valve seats from the factory on a 1968 YT motor???

1)I have hookers. Ocasionally i scrape them...not often. I hear Doug's are tighter to the bottom of the car...and likely less apt to scrape.

2) No

No factory heads had hardened seats until unleaded fuel hit the market in the '80s.

Any early heads that have them have been converted. Many have not.

I have Dougs headers on my car. They do not hang any lower than the subframe rails. They are almost too close to the floor, so good thermal floor insulation is a must.

Better count on buying a new starter too. The old one might start to give you heat soak problems from the extra heat the headers will cause. Just something you might want to budget in.

I don't think Doug's headers are "short". They're just designed to fit a bit closer to the undercarriage...

Bingo. They also clear the PS unit and oil filter well, so overall the general consensus is they fit better than other headers.

Long tube headers will help you build more low end torque and HP. Aren't they called "block huggers" as opposed to short??

There are short tubes out there, but you may as well get a set of LBM's if you were to go that route.
