Thinking about adding one for functionality, was that offered as an option in 69?

Thanks for any responses.

bird of fire69,,, in '67, '68 &'69 you got both D/S & P/S rally mirrors (fixed)... Optional was the driver remote mirror. In later years the passenger side was also remote (optional),,, but your car came factory with a mirror on each side of the car.

My '68 only came with drivers side mirror. I think the passenger side was optional only.

Car was bought new by my Father.

My 69 vert only has remote mirror on drivers side and nothing on passenger side.

I am referring to the chrome, non remote, stock mirrors.

Would I be "incorrect" if I mounted a right hand mirror on?

I need to know for sure before I drill holes if it is factory correct to have it on there.

According to everything I've ever read regarding 67-68 specifically states that they did not come from the factory with a passenger side mirror. These would have been a dealer installed accessory...

Earlybird is correct. IF a passenger side mirror is mounted, it was either dealer installed non-Pontiac option or aftermarket. This is true of '67-'69. And no "rally" mirrors ever came on our first gens.

This makes sense.

I was at the Goodguys show and bought a "set" of mirrors, and the guy said it was an option, but I never remember seeing a car with a chrome mirror on the pass. side.

I think maybe Camaros came with a passenger side mirror, but not Firebirds..

Now I have to decide if I want functionality or "correctness"

Thanks for all the help..

Do what you like. But Vikki is correct in that no 69s came from the factory with a pass side mirror. I've had a brand new one in the box for about 5 years now. Just can't bring myself to drill new holes in the car.
One thing to look at is your stock mirror had an offset mounting to the outside. Your aftermarket pass side one should mirror(pun intended) it.

The one I have is "correct" in that it is a right hand offset mirror, but I am with you Bob, I can't decide if drilling is a good idea.

I just hate not having a mirror over there.

You have a convertible. With the top down, the mirror is of limited utility compared to the wide open roof. I don't have one, and don't miss it. A coupe would be a different story.

It's all about symmetry! My 69'had body painted bullet mirrors and i've always liked the look of matching mirrors. My 68' has matching chrome mirrors as well. A single mirror almost looks wrong to me.

I added the right side mirror on my '69 for safety reasons. I also agree with other posters about the symmetry. However, I wish I could get a convex mirror for it so that it would actualy be useful.

You can get a convex mirror glass. Most glass shops can get them in for you.

My '69 vert originally came with the d/s remote, but that was long gone before I got the car. I had a hard time finding it without paying a fortune and finally gave up. I mounted some 70's bullets, but I dont like the way they sit. I finally bought a matching pair of simple, chrome mirrors that will go on once all the body work is done. I agree its about symmetry and I think it looks best with matching sides.

But its your car, so do what you want with it. Once the tops down, I agree, the mirror will provide only a little more to see compared to the big open sky and "no blind side" driving..

Everytime I pull the cover off and take the car out for a drive I have to adjust the mirror. I'm sure not going to adjust that pass side mirror everytime. It just would never get used on my bird. Besides what's behind you is history anyway :-D

I don't why a coupe makes it a safety issue. I've never had a problem weaseling though traffic for the last 33 years, managing to do it well, all without ever putting a scratch on a vehicle. As for missing, how can you 'miss' something that you never had in the first place?

You can "miss" it if you are accustomed to driving a modern car with a right hand mirror.

Nope. The RH mirror was a dealer option on 67-9 Camaros.
It looks almost quaint with just one mirror - take pride in being old style (though I always thought that the RH mirror on newer cars was a good thing!).
