I am changing my 1967 Firebird 2 speed transmission for a th350. Do I have to change the shifter linkage rod (it is hitting the side of the trans pan)? I also bought a detent kit, but I don't know if I should bother changing it, the instructions suck, and the hand drawn pictures are worse; do I have to change the neutral safety switch if I change or leave the original detent??
I did the same conversion on my 68 the only real issue I had was the kickdown cable. I reused everything. You do not have to change the shifter or detent. I purchased a conversion kit from www.shiftworks.com Check out the website it will answer your questions.
