Hello !! I was wondering if anyone had any photos of the 69' Firebird metal area where the dash panel meets the cowl panel (without windshield installed) ? I'm putting it back together (purchased a repop metal dash panel) but waiting to find either a template or metal lip that the bottom part of the windshield sits into (mine was rotted and I cut it out 15 years ago). I still have part of the piece but it is mangled very bad. I can't afford a repop cowl assembly and I only need the lip where the windshield sits. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Also would appreciate any photos or info on the rivets that were used for the VIn tage since I cut them out 15 years ago. Mine is a Norwood car if that makes a difference (69') heard they put the rivets in from the bottom. Are they rossette style ? Where to get ?

Where exactly do you want the pic taken , what are you looking for ? I can snap some of mine tomorrow. It has no windshield.

Thanks ! just the lower part where the windshield sits. I think that is just the edge of the dash panel and that the cowl assembly tucks up under that piece but not sure. Mine was all rotted. Appreciate it !

Thanks ! I think I can salvage the cowl piece I have with a fab'd piece of metal since the rotted part is all underneath the metal dash panel (replaced). Otherwise I was going to have to buy the whole cowl panel assembly that tucks under the metal dash and that is $250+. Now I can just fab a new strip of metal that will be under the metal dash panel anyways, nobody will see it and it will be good as new for the price of scrap metal and a few spot welds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your welcome, anytime. Glad you can repair the rust, my 69 had some rust in that area too, just patched it up with good metal. Nobody will see any of it as its covered by the cowl piece and windshield molding.

I will be doing this same repair on our bird. Some genius decided to repair this at some time with fiberglass. I have ordered the dash patch panel. Is the dash pad held on with those barbed plastic things? Do I have to pull the front of the dash off to replace the top piece?

I'm in the same boat with my 69. My cowl is ok, but I have a new dash panel that the previous owner of the project only had temporarily screwed on. I'm getting ready to spot weld the new dash in, but am also wondering on placement. Should a guy screw it on, then lay the wind shield on to make sure everything lines up, or is there some wiggle room for installing the wind shield if everything isn't perfect with dash placement?

How exactly is the top of the dash supposed to be held in place? Is it welded? Anyone have any pictures. I will be starting this repair this weekend once the engine/trans/subframe are out.
