All CA Owners-
Just got my first renewal for my 68 vert. $261 ! ! !
What happened to the $35 registrations? Is this normal, or do I go down to DMV to fix this?
Thanks!

Welcome to Kalifornia.
It also (probably) includes some past registration currency requirement(s). Prove that it was non-operative and it should go down to $71 plus $10 per year of non-op (if I recall correctly). Do you have personalized plates?

first renewal for my 68 vert. $261 ! ! ! Thanks! In Minnesota, classic car owners pay a "one time" license fee. So you never have to pay again. I think it was around $100 per car. Good reason to keep your car a long time.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I see that the non-op fee is now $18 instead of $10. Here's a list of fees that might be tacked on to your registration: CA Registration Fees The initial fee is still $34. ... and if you have personalized plates - of which there are many styles - here's the fee schedule: CA Personalized Plate Fees

I was going to click on that website to see what the fees were, but there was a $17 fee just to get the password.

Thanks all for the replies - "Kali"fornia, and others. I know Schwarzenegger jacked up the prices, but this is robbery!
Ok - So something is up. I paid all my fees when I bought the car, so it should have settled down to a normal range of $40 to $60. I will look into this a bit more - I don't have any special plates, not designated as a collector, etc.
Thanks!

Yea I need to get my 67 firebird back out here to cali... I still have the plates just need to re regester it out here. Its been sitting in MO for a long time.
1967 firebird A.I.R. 400 or California-emissions Firebird 400 four-speed hardtop. It also came with dual factory traction bars or safe-T- track rear axle, 10 bolt posi, front power disc brakes, PS, a Muncie 4 speed, Console, Dual exhaust, dual horns, and Soft Ray Glass windshield. Red on Red car... and a hood tach, rally gauge cluster... Maybe for sale??? Its sitting in MO and I am now in CA. Anyone want to haul it my way? PM me.
1220 of them were “(WU)” 400 A.I.R. 4 barrel manual transmissions. (Engine codes in parenthesis are for cars built with AIR Injector Exhaust Control, code 616. This was an emissions reduction modification performed on the heads. They were cast with an air injection passage to reduce emissions. They were installed on Firebirds manufactured for sale in California only).
It has a 24 339 code for the dealer on it from PHS... It was from Peninsula Pontiac, 2909 Pacific Coast Highway, Torrence, CA 90505

My 69 Firebird in July this year was $71, and my 71 Nova was $69 in June this year. If you look at the renewal you got in the mail it has a break down of the fees
