I just had to visit the "other woman"... No, not a mistress, although the Mrs. would probably call the Firebird that at times.
See, we sold our house May 2009, and all of our stuff has been put in storage since that time as we wait to build a new house this year. The first thing that went into the storage units was the '69 vert.
So last night, in the dead of winter, I told my wife I just had to go and look at the car. So we drove to the storage unit, I shoveled away the snow that was piled against the door, unthawed the locks, and opened the door.
Once inside, I rearanged all the stuff we put in there (we intentionally put the bird in first in the middle, then stacked stuff in front and behind so nobody could ever see the bird there if they pryed open the door.)
After wiggling through a made walkway around clutter and boxes, I got to the car in the middle. I pulled back the car cover, opened the door and sat inside. I used the flashlight to look around the interior, open and close the glove compartment, adjust the mirror, basically just soaked in the ambience of the project.
After sitting in there a while, I put the car cover back on, relocked the doors, closed & locked the storage doors, and went home.
Sometimes you just have to visit the "other woman" to keep your sanity during the long cold winter.
Luckily I have to brush past mine as it hibernates every time I go out the garage to get to work.

However, (and my wife would confirm) I do the same thing in my cars about once a month even though my 'verts are in our tuck-under garage for winter. I even start them and let 'em run a bit from time to time.
I can't imagine puting my babies in a rented storage locker though.
What did you say the address and unit number for the storage place was again...?

..heh... yeah, like Im gonna post that out on the net...
When we backed it into the storage place, the old timer who ran the place seemed to know what it was and said, don't worry, Ill keep an eye on it. Its in one of the units thats right in front by his house where everyone could see it if someone tried to retrieve it. Besides their company lock, I also have another lock on it as well, and we amble out there seems once a week to put something new in storage or to retreive something.
Plus, is someone wanted to steal it, theyd have to move all the hudreds of boxes stacked up 8 feet tall, all the furniture, all the misc heavy stuff all in the way.
But it felt good just to sit in..even if for a a short time. When the day comes this fall when we move it out to the new place, Ill be ecstatic again to have her back home with us.
A high school kid on our block parks his '66 Mustang in the street in front of the house overnight. Makes me cringe because I know that, like my 'Bird, the tranny selector and the steering column do not lock.

Your wife was with you so it was a threesome! Mines downstairs in my 2.5 car garage by itself, and yes I often grab a glass of wine or a scotch and go down and fuss around it a bit...even fire it just to "warm her up", idle and purr!...
my other woman is emily that was on the california bear claw key chain when i bought her . so i tell my wife every now and then that im spending some quilty time with emily. i try to devided my time between the two of them.
I was in the shop last night for the first time in weeks, just moving some boxes from the house. I turned on all the lights and put the boxes down, I walked over to the race car, looked up and down it's lines, opened the door, crawled over the roll cage in slid into the drivers seat, click the steering wheel on, grabbed the shifter handle and just sat there for what felt like a minute. When I went back to the house the wife said: "Where have you been? You went out there 15 minutes ago.
Four more long winter weeks until the first race.

This is too funny. My wife has always said she felt like the other woman since I bought my bird. She never wanted to drive it because she said it would always give her a hard time and wouldn't act right for her because it was jealous. So when I saw this tshirt on ebay I just had to buy it.
I have to visit my sister-in-law (NOT MY BRO! ha ha) and her kids just to see what's left of my memories, My nephew should be drive it to Ga. Tech this summer!
I'd rather see a rust bucket on the road, than a garage queen anytime!!

Well, as we are about to pile into our new old Pontiac and attend our first Friday night cruise night I almost feel like I am cheeting on my other women (the Bird).
So this is almost like being married, having a steady girlfriend and now cheeting on them both with yet another women! Wow, good thing I've never down any of this in real life, this is hard enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the last week and a half, when I have been home, I've been in the garage getting ready for the engine work. My wife works at night and I work daywork and overtime as needed. We see each other Sunday (all day), Monday, and Tuesday evenings.
To be perfectly honest with you, I'm affraid to go to work.
the weather better warm up in florida by march as my wife and i and our friends are coming down for a week. 10th-20th. we will be in the lakeland area.what nights are the local car shows and at what places,we plan on going to old town kissimme for there cruise.
I didn't take any pics, but the crackle of the race engine and the smell of burnt 110 octane on a cool Saturday morning in January got my blood flowing and my mind thinking about Spring.

I went to see the other woman today, she is at the body shop i walked in and saw her rear end jacked up and stripped, man those 69's have a nice rear end!.i bought the car 3 yrs ago with it's current paint job,now i knew she had some cancer but today when i saw her stripped, well let just say i need to order some more parts.looks like the dog is going to have some company in the doghouse for a while. the worst spot was the roof corner by the front windshield (one big ball of bondo),the body guy said he fixed worst though.looking for prices on door shells ,front fenders and trunklid, man is the wife not going to like this!
OK day out at the Barrett-Jackson auction yesterday. The forecast looked bad with lots of rare rain all week compliments of So Cal, but it only rained on the drive to Scottsdale and then quit shortly after we got through the gate. Then it was overcast but dry for the rest of the time we were there.
