Four first gens that I could find, all '69's. Two customs (lot#'s 935.1 & 1239), one true doc 400 4spd conv (lot# 716) and one true doc RA III 4spd Trans Am (lot# 1038.1).
The Lingenfelter 2010 T/A concept was in a small tent behind Tent #1. I took a photo but have to wait to get home next week to download it
There was a nice Orbit Orange '70 GTO Judge. The one 2-tone custom '69 Firebird was butt ugly. The 400 4-speed was under a car cover all day.
None of the custom stuff that sold yesterday came anywhere close to what it had to cost to build. The announcers mentioned last night that some 30 of the 1st day's cars sold for less than $10K. If you look at the "live" results on the BJ website, they post the results pretty fast.
2012 Mustang Boss 302 #1918, Competition Orange. FGF replacement 2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered. 2019 BMW X3 (Titled to the wife, but I'm always driving it for her. So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
Watched last night for a bit... while the prices are always the best (almost regular guy prices) the first few days, they always save the high end stuff for Thur on...
Hope you stay dry Mark! Enjoy, looking forward to the first hand pix...
Dry and sunny today, temps in the low 60's. Looks like tommorrow night is going to be NASTY.
I have a couple of cars I will be looking for to use as benchmarks for the BJ auction. The main one is a Candy Apple Red Factory Five Cobra recreation. My friend is thinking about getting one and the paint job was so awesome that I took down the info to use that shade on my Firebird. The owner was there and it was 3 engineers/car buffs yanking away for about 30 minutes. We know how much the owner has into it, so we will know how well he did when it goes over the stage.
We are looking at spending Saturday over at the Russo & Steele or Silver auction.

W'ho! Lot 716, the documented '69 400 4spd convertible went for $74,800.00.
They are adding the sales commission onto the prices on the web site. The auction price was $68K which is still a reason to celebrate.
Sure hope nobody had a car or was visiting Russo & Steele last night. 2 of the 3 tents covering the cars were blown away onto the adjacent freeway. The Phoenix Fire Department has shut down the auction and closed the site until at least this afternoon and are not letting anybody in yet including car owners and auction officials.
There was video from somebody on site last night and the tent poles did take out some cars. So in addition to body damage and busted windows - damaged cars,'verts and roadsters got rained on all night.
My wife and I are getting teased from the relatives about bringing the 2 tornadoes to the state.

No it's not. These are oddities in pricing whereby 2 people want the car, and the person who is willing to pissaway enough money gets the car.
Notice the assortment of vetts the other night? They were give away prices 30 to 45k. And some stinking @$$ nova/duce/chevelle/whatever t/f it was went for $145k. You can pick up identical cars all over the world for 25 to 30k.
Same for 6 cylinder cars converted to v8's. (These aren't 'custom' by a long shot, built identical to stock configurations.) All these more-butchered than my car sold for lots more than the n/m vetts.
The thing I love is the sfb guys who do the commentary: One was amazed that such a car would have drum brakes. IDIOT! All of these type cars had drum brakes back in the day. I had been a fgf owner for 18 or so years before I ever saw a fgf with disc brakes. One reason for the 'abundance' of disc brake cars is that they were less likely to go to the crusher during their lives, not because of an abundance of cars with d/b option.
The priceless one was this afternoon when I watched bj highlights while at home for lunch. The Idiot was standing at the front of a 400 '8 car, explaing that the 400 cars were the ones that had emblem delete on the bumper. If you want to fish around, it would have been a little after 1 est this afternoon.
Values aren't dropping; instead, they were grossly inflated by the fad, back when this board was created and 5 or so new pages of new posts were in each area.
Prices are still overinflated. Buyer's market myass! This is a seller's market, and time wil prove me to be correct.
But what would I know? I'm an idiot who paid $150 for a worthless pos, ending up with a vehicle with a grand total of $987 invested in it. (That included the 150 purchase price)
Just watched the 69 T/A, White interior, said to be one of 14 Van Nuys built T/A's, complete resto on this 400 RA III 4 speed car sell for $99,000.
I have to say that I am astounded by the prices people are paying for cars these days. People with more money than common sense are literally pricing the true enthusiast/hobbyist out of the game. They are still looking at is as a quick turn investment with the perk of driving a cool car for a short time.
Are they worth this kind of money? Technically no, they are all originally built the same, came down the assembly line together. Some obviously have more desirable options etc... but on the other hand, between the sellers and the bidders... it all comes down to what it's worth the them, to get that car. To the seller, hopefully they bought smart and sold smarter! The bidder, if they have that kind of money to throw around, it's all relative...
I too bought all my Firebirds smart (for what I could afford) My 68 in my signature images, I also bought for $150, had about $1k into it (about 2 years of work) and sold it for $3k. I think it's all relative to each individual's situation. I could never justify spending top dollar for a car at auction like these cars as I don't have that kind of money. So I can't quite see the worth on their terms, but to them, it must be worth it. So who am I to say what a cars value is to that individual? I don't think I can quite relate on their level.
But I do think that the prices are falsely driven buy such media hype to the point that as I mentioned, the true enthusiast is the one loosing out on being able to buy the car they have always dreamed of owning...
Yes I have to agree that the money spent at this auction is way out of kilter for what ya get. It was just nice to see FGF's getting some recognition, finally. Seems we're (FGFs) always passed up in the shuffle of big dollar Camaros, Mustangs, Vetts and Mopars.
I saw the green 69 conv. sell, that was a great price for the seller! Did anyone catch the 68 Conv. 400? I saw it (on a over pass shot, top down) the first or second night but ..... Hadn't see any T/A's go through yet (DVR'd Sat.)
I'd rather see a rust bucket on the road, than a garage queen anytime!!
It will be interesting to see if the higher prices will bring more cars next year?
A few years back an Amphi-car brought crazy dollars and the next year there were 4 or five there for auction. So yes it will probably mean more first gen Firebirds next year. Do the crazy prices change the value of my Firebird? No. But the exposure of cars like these verifys our cars as desireable collectables.
It was interesting to visit one of the "other" car auctions going on in Phoenix yesterday. The quality of the cars was much lower than Barrett-Jackson ones and the prices were like a police impound auction.
I saw a lot of bad body work and paint jobs. I was astounded by a totally custom 55 Chevy with bright paint and chrome with a completely rusty brake master cylinder right in your face in the engine compartment.
We watched two cars in particular cross the block. The 1st was an everyday '06 Mustang V6 'vert that I knew was a formal rental due to the "fleet sales only" color keyed door mouldings. It had 55K miles on it and several blemishes to the paint. These cars are going for $12 - $14K at any used car lot. The guy got $8K.
The car right after was an obvious backyard restification of a '67 Camaro including a do-it-yourself resale red paint job with numerous runs and drips. Bidding quit at $17.5K and it was a no-sale due to a $20K reserve.

Last year they had one BMW Isetta, this year they had four... I think. I'll bet there was some crazy winning bids for'em. Yes the exposure is nice.
It's all kind of bittersweet for me. Nice to see some of our cars getting the long wanted respect but then wait till you go to the next swap meet and car corral and see a bird that should go for about $2K and the owner wants $10K for it because he saw one go on TV for $70K. TV definately tweeks the viewpoint of the weakminded.
There were actually 2 Heinkels at Barrett-Jackson. Weird how some of the German aircraft manufacturers built little egg cars in post-war Germany. Messerschmitt built some egg cars too, complete with a canopy for the pilot/driver to get into, just like an old Me-109 fighter.
We are going to the Mecum auction this week in Kissemme, FL. We will be going Thurs night and Saturday night. I'll be sure to get several pics esp. FGF!

too bad it only tweaks it for sellers, not buyers....LOL
Photos from Barrett-Jackson. Sorry, not all Pontiac due to the different tastes of the family/friends I was with.
The Cobra roadster replica is sporting the paint shade I am going to paint my 'Bird with. The Cougar is a unrestored 1 of 96 1969 XR-7 428 Cobra Jet convertible

Wow, what color IS, that cobra? That's about the shade my wife wants on her 66 Mustang. Looks awesome... That Z-28 looks close to my paint job on my 72 Camaro, but my base is a Silver Blue and the stripes are a deep Slate Blue. (Obviously mine is not nearly as nice) Great shots looks and sounds like you had a good time!
Brent Block said he had a great time too. Hope to do the Scottsdale or the Vegas auction one of these days... (hey, after all, It's Vegas!)
Wow, that 1969 Mustang Mach 1 428SCJ is beautiful! I believe that color was called Gulf Stream Aqua. I'm not a huge Ford fan, but that's one of the Ford's that I think looks fantastic from all angles.

Thanks for the pix... got more?
PPG Vibrance Candy Apple Red. It is TOTALLY AWESOME in the flesh.
Sorry, that's all the photos I have except for several more of the Cobra for my friend and my future paint shop.
In the last tent there was a really weird '70 Mustang. A plain (non Mach 1) 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air fastback.

Love that version of the '10 T/A more than the '10 Bandit T/A that was at the T/A Nats last year.
Although is a Camaro, I like the split bumper cousin.
Yea, it's a Ford... but a very nice one!
Very tasteful colors. Bet it would have been nicer in the sunlight.
