Does anyone have recommendations for power disc brake conversion kit? I am looking for a complete front and rear power disc brake conv. kit for my 67 LeMans. I am asking because there are so many companies out there offering them. I want stock height (no drop) and I want to use my stock 14" Rally I rims. Any suggestions?
The desire to stay with the original 14 inch rims is really going to narrow your choices.
And several here have found that, despite all the assurances, their new conversion kit has clearance problems with their 14's.
2012 Mustang Boss 302 #1918, Competition Orange. FGF replacement 2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered. 2019 BMW X3 (Titled to the wife, but I'm always driving it for her. So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
Well, one thing that MAY help me in staying with the 14" Rally I rims is the fact that they are 14x7 and do have more clearence than the Rally II rims. I'm hoping that will make the difference and allow me to run the 14" Rally I's.
I just installed the one from Matt's Classic Bowties. Just fronts though, and I believe the kit requires 15 inch wheels which I upgraded to. Nice kit, they were very helpful everytime I called.
Good to hear. It seems most kits do require 15" wheels. If I can't find a kit to retain the 14's, then I will skip the upgrade and just add a power booster. Manual brakes absolutely suck. I just don't get it. I can't imagine anyone keeping them and not adding a booster. When I bought the Bird 10 years ago, that was the first thing I did the very next day. Bought the booster, unbolted the m/c pulled it away from the firewall, dropped the booster down behind and bolted everything back up. One of the quickest, easiest & cheapest upgrades one can make IMO!
LOL I ordered a set of Diamondback red lines today (Cooper brand). Can't wait to get them on the car. Cars older than 69 with white letter tires are one of my pet peeves. LOL
Joe, I just put on the SSBC rear disc kit on my bird. I bought that brand basically because they said they could be used with 14" rims. They were easy to put on once I got all the components together that I needed. They have really great customer service. Only thing is they're kind of expensive if you compare them to some of the other kits out there. Some of the difficulty I experienced was due to staggered shocks, so you shouldn't run into that issue. You want to think about replacing the original lines too in the event that you have to splice into them because those things are so old and hard that I found it nearly impossible to flare them.
Firebob, thanks for the info. I found a kit that supposedly comes with EVERYTHING, even a new differential gasket becuase they say you have to open it up etc.
Only reason you might have to open the diff is if it's a c-clip rear end. Mostly chevys I think. I'd be very leary if they are goig to sell you a chevy kit. I'd make sure they know BOP before I bought anything from them.
