Just ordered a pile of parts from Classic including a full upholstery kit for my '68 vert. For some reason I was under the impression Classic stocked PUI interiors but I guess this kit is 'Distinctive Industries'. Anyhow, my old interior is pretty ratty so there isn't much to compare it to... just wondering what the general opinion is out there comparing PUI vs. Distinctive for quality on their comfortweave? Is it worth sending these back and picking up PUI? I'm not building a show car here but I'd like something that lasts!
Here are some pics especially if anyone else is considering ordering these..
Clay, they look to be of good quality. Check the inside seams, and check them against each others for similarities to make sure they will match well (insert panels the same size, grain running the same direction etc)
I'd say if you look it over carefully and all looks good, nothing stands out, you should be good to go. I would think they would be just fine. Looks good in the pictures and the comfortweave pattern looks similar to others I've seen in person...
Either have them stored inside or make sure the work area is warm. If you have a heat gun that helps... they are easier to install and manipulate when the covers are warmer.
How is the weight of the vinyl material? The "Comfortweave" will feel lighter in weight as it is restamped, but the bolsters should feel relatively substantial.
I am installing a set of PUI covers in the '68 right now and they are not as heavy as the originals by any means, but are definitely not light and flimsy. A friend has a Mustang with some inexpensive repro seat covers that looked pretty good but the weave panel punched through from pocket contents.

Thanks guys - after taking a good look over all of the pieces I certainly have no complaints about the apparent quality... the weight of the vinyl SEEMs good to me, although once again I don't have much to compare it to. Definately doesn't feel 'flimsy' or easily tearable by any means.
My plan was to have a shop install these covers for me - honestly I hadn't even considered installing them myself assuming it was a job I could easily mess up!
That being said - I haven't ordered the buns or springs yet, and both are definately shot in the buckets. Shipping buns and springs up here to Canada I'm going to get raped on shipping costs ... can a good shop custom fabricate these parts??
Clay, That is the same kit we bought for our 68, only in pearl and really happy with the quality of the upholstery. The only piece I dont care for is the top boot that I think we'll change out with a PUI.
