I am hoping someone can help with my front parking light issues on my 67. I have parking lights and turn signals but when I pull the headlights on the front parking lights go out but the turn signals still work. I have installed a new headlight switch, cleaned off the paint to ensure the parking lights are grounded and I still have the issue. I even took out the bulb and grounded a test light to the battery and I still have no power to the light when the headlight switch is pulled all the way out. Anyone have any ideas?
67's don't have marker lamps. They only utilized parking/turn signal lamps, therefore when you pull the switch out all the way for headlamps the park/turn lamps go out and only work for signaling.
In 68 the DOT required the use of marker lamps, hence the wrap around style of the lamps on the 68 birds, as well as the rear arrow head marker lamp on the quarter.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Thanks for the info. I have been messing with these marker lamps for about 2 weeks off and on trying to figure this out. Probably should have asked the question then huh. I have just never seen a car that the marker lamps were not on. Thanks again.
'68 was the first year for the parking lights to stay on with the headlights. You can thank the Government for that. '68 was the first year for the mandatory side marker lamps that use the parking lamp circuit. Most all cars prior to '68 didn't have the parking lights on with the headlamps.
When I rewired my '67 Bird during the restoration the wiring kit came with a "u" shaped pc. of metal, if I wanted the lights to come on like the 68 and newer cars do to install it, if I want it to be like factory leave it out. I installed mine so that Motor Vehicle in Delaware does not question me every 2 years
