Is there a specific tool to help remove a windshield a little more easily and safely on our birds or will a generic tool do the job? Any tips on removal? David.

I have two diffent tools for the windsheild. One goes on a air chisle and works great but has two much power. The other tool looks about the same but has a T-handle to pull with. I think the safest way is with the piano wire. I hit my windsheild with the air chisle tool by accident and broke it.
There are many types of tools used for removing glass, I think with the old birds you can get by with a cold knife/piano wire. (this is described above) The windshield and backglass were put in with a butyl tape unless the glass has been removed before. Even so you can still use the tools above. This will get you by without spending alot of money on glass tools.
What are the chances of breaking the glass trying to remove? Is it very easy to break? Where should i start or the best place to start when i try and remove it? Thanks.... David.

if there are any chips on the edges, it has a good chance of breaking coming out or going back in. do not pry on it at all.
i started on the side, with a curved pic, and dug the tar out until i could poke thru with wire. i had help from a friend too. i would be prepared to buy a new windshield, but if you're careful, you should be fine. mine cracked going back in because of a chip.
Thanks for all the help guys! I removed the windshield safely, now just to put it back in safely I ended up using a sharp exacto knife to slice the adhesive and then a moulding trim tool to pull the adhesive out.Worked like a charm, however i believe it came out easy as the car was never driven since the windshield was installed,so therefore no wind pressure on it to force it more into place.I was lucky! Thanks for all the tips David.

Now I took the windshield out of my car today and used a thin aircraft cable and the trim tool to start it. Had it out in minutes. Maybe i'm in the wrong line of work! That trim tool really does the job for me. Now to get the replacement in without breaking it! I don't wanna start singing two out of three ain't bad cause i'll be cussing all night.
David.
