I have a 67 firebird that came with AC, but of course the AC is gone and the engine is different and what is left of the AC/Heater box is hacked up. You can see a picture of it here Heater Box
My goal for the car is to fix it up as a daily driver. I am not doing a complete restoration, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money trying to get the AC working right now. So my question is, what do you think I should do with it? I was thinking of just taking what is left of the box out and fabricating a cover or something for it. This means that there will be no heat or AC, but there aren't any now anyway. Is there something like this available? Or maybe I should just leave it alone. I figured I might as well do something with it since I had the fender off.
There's a company that avertises block-off plates for the A-body (GTO, 442) on eBay. American Graffitti or something like that. They may also have an F-body version.
Since its not an 'original' car , or matching no`s car...just block it off like Q said, if you dont find one , just make a temporary, then when you`re ready for a/c ,buy a Vintage Air, you get heat and a/c , but it fits inside under the dash area, not eating up space in the engine room = you can change all spark plugs easily... the Vintage air looks like factory from the dash view, uses the current vents.....
Thanks for the advice. I will keep looking for a plate. The closest thing I could find was from Detroit Speed, but I think someone told me it was for cars that didn't have factory air. So I will probably just make my own.
I'm in the same boat trying to figure out what to do. If I ever had the intention of selling it I would try and piec the air back together but since I don't I have decided to do one of the options already mentioned.
1. American Graffiti block off plate. I have seen them for F-body on ebay and I belive they are fiberglass.
2. Block off the plate from detroit speed should work fine even if it is a air car, then put a vintage air in at some point.
Markl. I have a housing off a 69 that has been modified to eliminate the evaporator. I don't know if it will fit a 67. If you are interested I can e-mail you a picture.
