Really? My drivers side vent bezel is just black, as it's part of the black dash panel. Only the passenger side ia a separate piece, mine is black to match (but could have been anything originally.)

reading up some , it seems like there were chrome and black....personally I have never seen any black , only chrome ones
Hey Bjorn, You got a pic of your drivers side AC bezel? I curious how they got it chromed.
I`ll check my pics...
but I think they were chromed before installation....they sell both black and chromed re pops for both sides....so I assume you can replace it...never tried to get it out.
I only have one pic , and not very good ,the steering wheel kinda covers it..its from 5/15/2002, and those fuzzy dice are not in the car anymore...that was just one weekend ,for fun. LOL I took the picture because I had just changed to the Grant Steering wheel.
I would think you take out the piece the vent ball is attched to ,then replace it from the other side ??.
I guess I should take the time one day and take pictures of everything in my car
Especially those hood ornaments! An update would be great!

Hmmm. Hard to see much in your pic. But, unless I'm missing a part in my car somewhere, the drivers side bezel is molded as part of the dash. I don't know how you can replace just the bezel on that side. You can't see much from this pic either, but the bezel area is black. Or are we not talking about the same piece?

well, yes ,hard to see but my "ball" there is chromed....Isnt that piece the ball fits in removable? I think I remember a screw in the top of it.?? and it shouldnt matter that mine has the burlwood , since its just added to the face of the black dash.
I`ll see if I can remember to go take a better pic , or pics, tonite!
I THOUGHT we were talking about 69's originally, but my wife tells me i"m frequently "incorrect." I believe the 67/68's are different.
Bjorn, let me know what your's looks like. Like I said, unless I'm missing a part I was unaware of, that part doesn't come out of the dash. (The vent ball is chrome, like yours, it's not installed in that pic.) I thought about painting that area (and the one from the pass side) to match the rest of the (metal) dash but then I got lazy.

That's my fault. I neglected to say in my original post that the car in question was a 68. I'm a long-time Camaro fan, and I'm still learning the ways of the Firebird! I wasn't thinking about the interior changes in 69, (like the Camaro).
But, hey, thanks for all the replies. It looks the consensus is that the bezel should be dash colored on a 67-68.
yes 67s had chrome vents w ac only....early 69s have 68 vent balls , like mine....not sure of 68`s but to tell how they are installed , maybe get info from Classic ,they DO sell a kit where they sell balls , bezels and "retainers", so theres a hint...kit is part no R566 for chrome bezels, R566A w black bezels, and they only sell chrome balls (of course what CI says is often wrong , like me..lol), on page 144 in their parts cat.
and in my old 68 (that had ac I had chromed vent balls ), I think the bezels had color of the dash (I owned this one in 1969, so memory from it isnt the best)
And I took one from below, since I thought they had a screw at the top, not sure how they install, but I know one of mine was loose at some point , think I added a dab of silicone to hold it.
but Lee, heres what mine looks like.
and yes , for whomever is going to tell me I have brake pedal s.s. trim from a Camaro, I do know....but I liked the mentioning on this about disc brakes ,as my car has those I thought it 'fitting'...it looked better than the 'fat' s.s. trim it had before
but I dont think the bezel is molded in as part of the dash...its got to be a separate piece , glued in or attached some other way...as you can buy replacements.
I know this is an old post, but I am doing my 69 dash at the moment and what you are calling a bezel on the dash carrier is all molded one piece, the ball installs from the back side and the duct snaps in to hold it in place. The bezel on the passenger side bolts to the metal part of the dash so it is removable. The ball still installs from the back and held in place by the duct
