I have a 68 auto with a T handle shifter handle that has the clip attached. However the handle does not have a place to clip and it was held in place with silicone when I bought it. Am I missing a bushing or is this a camaro shifter in the car? Photo attached What are my options? Thanks, Tom
Either his shaft's innards are missing or the spring is broken.
(Somehow, that just does not read well!)

You might be able too. But you are probably looking at replacing the shifter itself. The inner shaft gets depressed when you squeeze the T-handle so you can shift from Park, D to 2 or low and etc. Can you move the shifter freely through all the gears?
I'm guessing you can. You'll have to do some more research and disassembly to see what you need to do to fix it or you may end up replacing.
If it is similar to the 2nd Gen FB shifter, which I think it is, then yes, the innards were separate. I remember taking the shifter in my '80 T/A apart for cleaning and re-greasing.
So yes, IF you can find the correct innards, you can transfer them over.
However, I will bet you that you are going to have to find a donor shifter. I believe this type was also available on '68 and up Camaro's and Nova's but I am not positive.

Yes, I can shift freely now but there is not a very distinct detent between gears. Does not move as freely as other shifters I have had in other cars. Thanks
By the way- This car has a chevy 350 engine so chevy tranny as well. I have not gotten it up on the rack yet due to another project.
