Hi, Just started a badly needed rear wiring harness replacement on my 68 conv FB. I can see the harness channel that it follows on the drivers side. Where does the big connector at the end plug into? I am assuming the fuse panel. Took a quick look but could not tell. Any pictures? or help would be appreciated.
How do you remove the kick panel? I removed all the screws and it is loose but the vent is recessed and there is no clearance as the parking brake is in the way. I am sure it cant be that hard.thank you.
Yeah, unfortunately, it's a PITA to remove. I just did the same harness on a 68 and I can't remember if I actually had to remove the kick panel. The connector is way at the top, so I may have been able to get at it. I do remember having to remove the AC vent, move the hose out of the way and reach in with one hand.
If it's never been removed, the sealant that seals the vent duct to the sheetmetal might be still holding it. Removing the parking brake isn't always absolutely necessary unless there is a screw on the top that it's blocking.
Sorry I'm not much help. Just be patient and gentle when tugging on it.
I installed the rear wiring harness and have no drivers rear lights, turn signal,or hazards. All other lights front and rear are fine. What am I missing? Only the drivers left rear is not working. I have no voltage on either of the yellow and brown wires at the bulbs. I have not ohmed the wires out yet. Is there something that is only responsible for the left (drivers) rear lights or is something else wrong. Thank you.
Make sure the bulb assemblies are installed (grounded) into the taillight housings.
The lights will not work if they are spread out lying in your trunk.
I made this simple mistake more than a few times.
If you have them all plugged in and they still don't work, try twisting and grinding the plugs to ensure a good ground to the housings.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. 68tpls400 is right, the ground would be the only thing common to all three functions. If it was just the turn signal/brake lights/hazards on that side, then the the turn signal switch could be at fault. Reverse lights also don't work?
But, both sides of the tail lights, (running lights) are spliced together. The splice could be bad, but I doubt it.
I ohm'd the wires on the new cable and they seem good. Looking at the wiring diagram I see the brown wire feeds all the lights in the rear. The yellow wire is only for the left, drivers side. From the diagram it is unclear where its final destination is. Is that ground and how does the flasher fit into the picture? I would venture a guess the flasher works by connecting and reconnected the ground? Any insite would be greatly appreciated. I believe my yellow wire is the problem but not on my new cable. It is very cramped down there by the fuse box. Does anyone make an aftermarket old style fuse box if needed? Guessing maybe the connector from the fuse box to the new cable?...Thank you
Ok, It is working now. There was never anything wrong. By that I mean, I was at first only testing the hazards because it was an easy test. If I have my turn signal on, my left hazards will not work. If it is in the neutral position, not being used, the hazards work fine. All my lights, hazards etc work now. does not quite make a whole lot of sense. My turn signals work fine. Only if I leave my left turn signal on and use my hazards will they not work. does anyone one to shed any light on this? Normal?
