I was working on the Firebird, came into the house for a minute, and all of a sudden, my horn starting going off - one constant beep. I ran out and disconnected the battery and it stopped. I disconnected the horn, but when I hook up the battery, It starts clicking like it wants to beep again. What happened? Why would this all of a sudden start beeping? Does it have anything to do with the horn relay, or some wires under the steering column? I have been working on the gauges and had the steering column down for awhile. It is now back up in position. Did something get shorted out?
Nevermind - I found it! When I bolted the column back up, it smashed one of the wires up between the bolt and mounting plate. It must have just wore through the insulation and got to the bare wire. I re-taped the wire and made sure it didn't get caught in between when I bolted the column back up this time. Problem solved. Sorry for the false alarm!
Before I saw your second post , I said to myself , "its a short"...but you found it.... I had that happen on a rallye car 30 yrs ago as I hit a good bump....a wire got smashed under my skid plate....
