I am in the process of converting to Rally Gauges. I have purchased the Oil and Temp sending units and am ready to install them. Are there special wires that I need to run to them? What would be the original, correct set up? Or would ordinary wires do? Could someone send me pictures of their original setup? Thanks.
The FAQ part of this website has the info you need. Besides switching some of the wires around in the cluster plug, you need to run two wires to the engine bay for the volt meter.
No, I understand that part (I think). I believe the wires you are speaking of are the two new ones that need to be added - one black, one white. I was just wondering what kind of wires connected to the sending units themselves. I removed the wires that were connected from the aftermarket gauges I had to the sending units that existed. How do the readings get from the oil and water temp sending units to the Rally Gauges?
Are they not like aftermarket gauges using tubing from the sending units to the gauge itself?

I believe the stock engine side wires for idiot light versus guages are the same. The original oil sending unit is electrical as is the temp (i.e., it's not the thermocouple style). The wire to the temp unit was green with a single female spade connector that slid over a nail head like post on the sending unit. The oil sending unit has a conventional male spade for the single wire attachment.
So, Hammered, are you saying that I just need regular wires? What type of wire connector goes over the temp sending unit? I know you said a single female spade connector - I haven't seen a connector like the one that needs to go over that post. Will I be able to pick those up at the local auto parts store?
I have seen Temp Sending unit wire repair kits sold by either Classic, PY, Ames or Rick's. All of their catalogues are on line. The kit is cheap and includes a length of correctly colored wire and the correct connector.
