Where does this mount for Rally Gauge setup? I bought an original sending unit and it doesn't want to fit in the space where my aftermarket sending unit was. It is right below the distributor and coil on the engine block. I just want to make sure this is where it is supposed to go. I have also read that it attaches to the oil filter adapter? Is there any other place where this can go?
Dumb question, I know - but sometimes the easiest things cause all the problems!
The BEST place for the sending unit on a PONTIAC motor is next to the distributor. This is the TRUE oil pressure in the engine, after the oil's been through the filter. The stock sending unit location is the oil pressure coming out of the pump and after the bypass, but before the filter.
I relocate all my O.P. senders to the block at the distributor for the sake of accuracy.
Oh No! Not another thing Chevy got right first. The Pontiac engineers should have been peeking on that one! I bet if you could ask the Pontiac engineers they would have a reason for the sending unit being by the filter. Engineers have an answer for everything! Jim :p
Quenton: So it sounds like I have mine in the best place? I will have to figure out a way to squeeze it in there. I purchased an elbow to mount it with, so I may be able to turn it to get enough room.
