For anyone interested, I have set up a google group in a similar fashion as the FirstGenFirebird google group. The Primary difference being that this site is dedicated to the FGF Cannonbird Run and I would prefer that we keep the topics and discussions related to this event. Anyone wishing to be addded to the email list just simply let me know at fgfcannonbird...@yahoo.com and I'll be happy to add you. Please let me know if you want to get all emails as they come in, condensed (a few bulk emails per day) or just the one at the end of each day containing all of the days activity.

Hey Guys,
Quick update on the Cannonbird Run. Things are continuing to come together. We think we'll have as many as 100 FGF's there. In addition, the city of Estes Park sponsors their own annual "Auto Extravaganza" event which just happens to fall on the same weekend that we will be there, so we have already made arrangements to participate in some of their festivities on Saturday. It's going to be beautiful there in August and we're going to have a great time.
Attached are "near final" drafts of our sponsorship information and registration forms. Check out the great logo - kudos to our own Brett Liukkonen for his great graphic design skills (and for putting up with a bunch of guys each pitching in with their own opinions about how it should look!).
The only thing missing from these forms though is a phone number. Does anyone have a secretary or receptionist that would be able to take some calls from time-to-time? Or how about an extra phone number where we could have calls answered by a pre-recorded greeting ("Thank you for calling about the 2010 Cannonbird Run...please leave a message and we will get back to you asap..."). Someone's gotta have a phone number we can use - or a volunteer who would be willing to take some calls...???
If you haven't marked your calendars yet, the date is August 13-15. Be there! More details to follow soon. Scott
OK, the YMCA contract has been signed and we can now start making our room reservations. Here are a few things to know about booking your lodging:
· We’ve reserved an initial block of 50 rooms and 4 cabins. This complex is huge (over 860 acres). They have several different lodges to choose from – each with slightly different amenities and prices. We’ve reserved a few rooms in each lodge so that people can choose what they want. At $87.00 per night single occupancy, the least expensive rooms are in the Mt. Ypsilon Lodge (25 of the 50 rooms we reserved are in the Mt. Ypsilon Lodge). The other 25 rooms are we reserved are scattered among the other lodges which are newer & nicer and therefore more expensive (approximately $160 per night, singe occupancy).
· The cabins are very popular and are difficult to get. Consequently, we were only able to reserve 4 of them - 2 of the “Two-Bedroom Basic” at $124 per night and 2 of the “Two-Bedroom Mid-Sized” at $154 per night. These cabins will go fast, so if you want one you better act quickly.
· The rates we’ve negotiated for the rooms & cabins include breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning.
· A 35% deposit by credit card is required at the time you make your reservation. If you subsequently need to cancel your reservation, if you cancel more than 30 days before the arrival date you will receive 75% of your deposit back. If you cancel within 30 days of the arrival date you will forfeit 100% of your reservation. If you never cancel and you just plain old don’t show up, they reserve the right to charge you 100% of the total amount of the cost of your stay. These cancellation policies and charges can be waived in the event of accident or illness with proper documentation.
· To make sure your reservation gets credited towards our contracted block of rooms, PLEASE MAKE SURE TO REFERENCE OUR CONTRACT NUMBER at the time you make your reservation. Reservations can be made online or by phone. The attached document contains our contract number and the instructions for making a reservation. These same instructions will also be available on our official Cannonbird Run website when it goes live within the next couple of days.
· If you have questions about any of this, please feel free to email me directly at scott.everson@comcast.net. If you think your question and my answer would be helpful for the entire group to see, you can post your question on this list.
One final note. Although it’s way too early to know how big of a turnout we will have at Estes Park this summer, we would not be at all surprised to have over 100 cars/attendees. However, since this is our first event and we’re working without a formal budget (translated means we’re spending our own money to get this thing off the ground!), we didn’t want to go out on a limb and book more rooms than we were comfortable being financially on the hook for. So we only reserved 54 rooms – which we expect will get booked fairly quickly. If you wait too long to book your room, you might be out of luck, and it is VERY UNLIKELY you will find anything else in Estes Park with rates as low as these. You’re next best option will be hotels in Loveland about 30 minutes away. On June 29, if any of the rooms in our block have not been reserved, they will be released and returned to inventory for reservations by the general public.
Click here to download a nice brochure about the YMCA and their facilities and lodging options. Hope to see you all there. Scott
looks like the website has 'developed' and has new format and is now "live".... If you marked yourself on the map, it doesnt look like it transferred to this website, so now need to do it again...

Hi All, It lives!
Our official CannonbirdRun website is now live J Check out-
You can now officially register for the August festivities, book YMCA rooms, and check out the Cannonbird merchandise at the online store. Note – the YMCA will only hold the rooms for a few months, thus the earlier you register the better chance of getting a spectacular view J
Feel free to invite your friends and forward this information to fellow enthusiasts – you don’t need to own a Firebird to attend, just be an enthusiast!
You can also add your name to the Caravan Map – very useful for finding those who may be interested in hooking up for the pilgrimage to Estes this August. Note – if you added your name to the earlier map, you will need to redo the entry on our new website. Also, if you would like to be contacted for carpooling, we suggest including your email or phone in the map info line when you add your name.
Here are a few of the Cannonbird Run highlights:
- Bill Porter, head of Pontiac Design in 1969, will be our Bird Banquet speaker – this is the guy that was responsible for the 1969 Firebird!
- Meet fellow list members and catch up on the latest Firebird jokes, gossip, and tips
- Significant others can partake in Shop Till You Drop festivities
- We will have 3 tech sessions on topics related to maintaining and restoring our Birds.
- We will have a Junior Drivers school for the kids(at the go-cart track)
- We are staying at one of the coolest YMCAs in the country – right beneath Rocky Mountain National Park
