Just starting to get serious with my rebuild and looking to swap gears. I currently have a 2.56 posi rear with a ZB code and looking to change to a 3.36 but to my understanding I have to change the carrier. Is this correct? Any one have one they want to part with$? Also looking for anyone in the Columbus area that can give any pointers.

That is correct, you need a 3 series carrier to use that gear ratio. Eaton & Auburn make posi units for BOP 8.2, you are best off to buy a new one than take a chance on a used one.

I have been told you can get a good idea of what gearing is in the rear of a car by turning the rear tires and looking at the drive shaft. Your supose to count the turns on each to get an idea of gearing. Is it something like 3 turns of the drive shaft to one on the wheel = 3.08 rear and 4 to 1 = a 4.11

Thanks that's what I thought am looking at the Auburn unit people have said it's stronger than the Eaton one. Anyone have any opinions on that?

I've heard the Auburn is better than the Eaton also. I beleive Eaton has the cone clutches and wear out faster.
