Where does the grey wire go to ground on the short fuse for the instrument panel? I am getting feed back when light switch reostat turned all the way on and keeps popping fuses. Thanks, Tom
OK where should I look? The wiring harness to the dash cluster unplugged and still the fuse is popping as soon as reostat is turned to full bright on light switch.
Check the courtesy bulb sockets under the ends of the dash. If there are no bulbs in the sockets, the center lead can touch the side of the socket and short out.

Yes sir- convertible car with courtesy lights on either side- If I turn the light switch knob to the left it will blow fuses before I even get to full on position. I have a turn signal flasher jumped across to click when shorting out.
Door jamb switches, glove box lamp. Glove box lamp can short in the same manner.
If you turn the rheostat to a central position then pull the switch on without turning it, does it blow then? If not, the headlamp switch itself may be at fault.

brand new head light switch- No glove box lamp wire to be found. door jamb switches are new bit i wonder if paint prevents them from going to proper ground. I did unplug them and still had the problem.
Talking about a vert. with no visible courtesy light wiring in site. Taking out the kick panels to see what I can find. I do have the lights under rt and left dash. Vert does not take a different light switch does it?
The courtesy lamps are the lights under right and left dash.
Find the orange glove box lamp wire, it is probably loose behind your glovebox. When mounted, it is in the upper front left corner of the glove box, attached to the switch. It's an interesting little bugger, and the wire is often yanked or chopped off.
Door jamb switches not grounding will not blow a fuse.
A new headlamp switch does not mean it's a good headlamp switch. It may be best to remove it and check it with an ohmmeter for internal shorts.
Be sure the gray wires in the dash harness are not shorted to ground.

turns out when the short fuse is jumped the taillight circuit fuse blows- The wires at the tail lights were cut and twisted by hand with a minimal wrap of tape then both were taped together side by side- Amazes me how slack people can be with wiring. Reconnected with crimped connectors so I plan to hook back up and try again tomorrow. Hope it was feedback from the tail lights through the light switch that has been causing my woes.
