I think I finally figured out how to attach pics, hopefully!! Anyway I am still having an issue with the cowl fitment. It appears the back edge of the cowl is to slide under the windshield trim and that the little tabs on the windshield trim clips hold it tight?? I think? My issue with this is how to you place the cowl without scratching the paint?? Any help would be very appreciated, hoping to take our first cruise this weekend!!!!
How you describe the cowl fitting is correct. But I do not have any good ideas about the paint scratching issue as I was planning on putting the windshield trim on AFTER the cowl.
Maybe blue painter's tape?

I can't think of any way to put the lower trim on after the cowl panel is in. There are screws that hold the bottom trim clips down and they have to be put in the trim prior to screwing it down. I just wanted to make sure I am doing it right. I did not take the cowl off the car, previous owner did but it was not all scratched up on the edge.
I know I took the trim off before getting to the cowl, I havent put it back on yet but there's got to be a way. I cant imagine the factory installing the windshield trim before they got to the cowl panel.
Probably by sliding the bottom of the clips into the trims channel, then popping the top of the clip in somehow.
John, I would have to take a look a little further to see if it could go on after the cowl. My windshield guy told me I had to put the trim on first and he has a '69 Firebird so I believed him. It just seems like it should not fit together like that. It seems like eventually the trim would wear through the paint on the cowl. I thought about cutting some clear rocker panel protector tape and sticking it on the cowl up to where the trim covers. I have to be missing something here, it cant be this difficult!
Looks like tape and be very careful is the word on this install. Mine is going to be pretty tight based on when I tried to install a few weeks ago. I guess I will put on some tape and take it easy. I cold not imagine installing without something to keep it from scratching.
My body guy just did this on my car about a month ago,he put the trim on first then installed the cowl.i wasn't there when he did it but he managed it without scratches. their is a clip on each end of trim that has a little allen head screw to hold it down,it is a p.i.t.a to get to as it's tucked up under the top edge of the fender.
