In the production sheets I have seen for 1967 Firebirds it has different engine sizes listed with air inj. and I know the A.I.R is for the smog emmisions but what does air inj. stand for?
A.I.R. is "Air Injection Reactor" and it is an air pump used to pump ambient air into the exhaust ports of the heads cool the exhaust gas and dilute it slightly. The intention was to reduce the by-products of combustion that are not simple CO2 and H20. Particularly, they were looking to reduce NOx compounds and CO (Carbon Monoxide).
