I am converting a 69 convertible from a console automatic to manual. Does anyone have the dimensions of the shifter hole in the floorboard and dimensions from a reference point as to where the hole should be? I looked in my factory manuals and could not find any place that references the hole size and location. I am putting in a TKO 500 and have identifed the shifter location for it but wanted to make sure the hole for the standard Muncie is also in the same location prior to cutting. If I find a decent console for the manual at an affordable price it will be installed but at this time I think no console will be the option. Thanks, Tom
I am not sure I understand, if you have a console automatic, then you already have the hole in the tunnel. If you have a column shifter than that is different. I put the tko 600 in mine, and was able to use the stock shifter location in the floor by going with the hurst blackjack shifter, which is offset and fits perfectly in the stock location. If nobody else answers before I get home, I can take pictures and measurements if you still need them.
The car has a console and my guess is it was not original since the hole for the cable is very small, not near the size needed for the manual shifter. If you could get dimensions of the hole and a reference to where the hole starts that would be great.
Console automatics do NOT have a large hole cut in the floor for a shifter, just the cable hole.
There are templates available for the floor cutout for Hurst shifter on Muncie, but I believe the hole location varies slightly for other transmissions.
