Does anyone know of a source for an oversized self tapping repair fitting for the fuel inlet (filter housing) in the carburetor? (Rochester Quadrajet, 7/8" diameter fitting). The threads in my float bowl are corroded very badly. The only fitting I have found is 1" dia. made by "Motormite".

You should be able to get the correct size in a helicoil repair kit. Check your better auto supply houses. If not, then I am sure one of the carburetor repair shops listed in the Pontiac mags can assist you.

Good idea on the helicoil Tom. Now the next question. Is there enough wall thickness to install a helicoil? Has anyone else ever performed this repair?
