I was invited to bring "BIGDADDY" my 69 Bird to a show the caliper of a world of wheels event next March 2011. it's a 3 Day show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks PA. There are 3 classes, my Car fits the Street car class. I have never had any of my cars entered in an event like this, but understand you get a 10'X20' space to "DISPLAY" your car. And the DISPLAY is judged.
Here's where you all come into play, I need suggestions for a cool, simple display that isn't going to cost me $100.00's of dollars, now here's one thought.
A Rally II wheel at each of the 4 corners. Some kind of mounting pole with a connecting rod attached, or the rod & piston I thought Axles but don't know, then some other type of Stanchions in between on all sides, with Pontiac Logo pennant streamer as my roping around the car. A display board of some kind with my Car's info, maybe grey rubber diamond plate matting under the car, or light turquoise carpet to match the car, and 2.. 24" X 24" Pontiac Crest shaped mirrors one under the front one under the back under the car lying on the carpet. And a 3'X5' black Pontiac Banner with red crest and checkered flag graphics on the sides, lying on the floor in front of the cars wheels.
OK now let me here your ideas, This event will be judged by ISCA Judges. Anyone ever participate in a show like this? What should I expect? What do the look at? At Nationals in Norwalk last year I took first in class, and they spent all of 10 minutes on my car. Here 2 sets of Judges will judge the cars 2 different days or at night when no one is there.
Here's my Car incase some of you haven't seen it before.

Sounds like you're headed in the right direction with your diplay. As far as not costing #100s give up on not doing that. That's going to end up happening anyway. Good luck in the show,
Looks like a masonry paving product that is made in a honeycomb. It allows grass to grow through and allows drainage through as well.
Was produced a lot in the upper midwest about 20 years ago, and then kind of died out. (it made a mess of snow-plow blades)
I figured it would be a big hit in the south or southwest.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I feel like I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe. 1968 400 convertible (Scarlet) 1976 T/A - 455 LE (No Burt) 1976 T/A New baby, starting full restoration. 1968 350 - 4 speed 'vert - 400 clone (the Beast!) 1968 350 convertible - Wife's car now- 400 clone (Aleutian Blue) (Blue Angel) 2008 Durango - DD 2008 GXP - New one from NH is AWESOME! 2017 Durango Citadel - Modern is nice! Well, she was describing the Rally wheels and poles at the corners...
So maybe you guys are on the same page...

How about a coffin with an skeleton arm busting through the lid clinging to a Firebird Emblem?
Actually I like what you're discibing, pretty straight forward for a car show, we have a banner/sign company near me that makes about anything reasonbly priced as long as he can download logos and not have to draw it. Legal as long as you're not selling them. Carpet can get pricey, and personally I never liked the look since it's not natural for a car to be on carpet. The diamond flooring is ok, but it can look cheap.
Have lots of stuff and options with you, look at other displays to see if you have to much or not enough out.
Outside the box? A beach display of your car with fake sand dunes behind it or dune grass or potted palms in the background, maybe inflateable beach stuff around it, gives it a parked at the beach look, may be a little unorthodoxed for a show and it might make judging tough, but it'd look good with a Convertible.

Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.
I don't have time for a job, I just need the money.

This is a great idea! Don't forget the surf-board too.
Nice job Gordon.

That surface she is parked on does look cool. My guess is it is concrete with an intentionally heavy textured surface to keep the kids in their own [censored] yards. (prevent skateboarding and such)
68' Firebird 400 convertible, numbers matching, solar red w/ deluxe parchment interior. 66' Pontiac Ventura Hardtop 66' Pontiac Catalina Convertible
I had a couple ideas, none that necessarily go together but maybe there's something you could use. Use that photo you posted above and take it to a sign shop. Have them scan and apply to a piece of plexiglass and make a lightbox out of it. A free standing lightbox. Either make the box out of wood or cardboard and light it by mounting battery powered fluorescents (the kind you mount under your cabinets). Utilize the box for pontiac insignia/graphics. An added effect, if someone can photoshop that photo to be black and white, except for the car it will really POP.
You could also get a canvas tarp and paint It like a dried riverbed or saltflat and cut the edges jagged around the cracks. Or just paint It like a road w/yellow lines.
Also, you can use things like sonet tubes as stantions, just paint them and add a top.
Another flooring idea is that you buy a couple boxes of vinyl tile (12" sq.) In marble or granite or river rock or even parquet flooring and assemble them under the car.
WOW! lots of good ideas! thanks guys!! The surface that picture is on is a white masonary tile surface. We had a brick yard here in Quakertown years ago, and this was left over from some job. It's placement is being used as the roads surface over a small creek bed. It's an interesting surface for sure, nothing can grow up through it it's solid. I thought it would make a nice picture and apparently it did, enough so that's it's the pictures HPP used when my 2 cars were in HPP. Thanks for all the great ideas, keep em comming.

What are sonnet tubes? I do need something for in between the sides that 20' span on each side of the car needs one maybe 2 stanchions. Any other cool ideas for what to use as stanchions?

I had spelled it wrong before. "Sonotubes" are cardboard forms people use to pour concrete footings for decks and stuff...
They look like this,
I was thinking you could paint them. You would have to add a top and bottom though. You know what would be cool, that light idea I mentioned before. What if you had a plexiglass top on the tubes and put these lights in the bottom or a few inches from the top. That way they would be little stantions/bbeacons of light.
Sorry for the crude bar napkin drawing but well I'm a, in a bar. This is kinda what I had in mind. Notice the top of the tubes are on a slope. There's no rotate option on my phone so sorry for the sore neck.
Wow. We have an artist in our midst. Nice job John!
