Has anyone installed rally gauges using an internal regulated alternator? I know I need to redo a few wires on the connector for the rallys but is it as simple as using the wire for my gen light for the amp gauge?
Also, did any early 68's come with the blue steel 67 face plate? The gauges have a Jan 1968 date stamped on the back and thought that would have been too late for the 67 model. Thanks!
I have rally gauges with the same issue, that I have yet to investigate.
I have M&H wiring harness modified for an internal regulated alt and new ralley under dash harness and I know the amp gauge works but its not working.
When I talked to M&H on the phone I got a little insight on how it works. There are two heavy gauge lines, one runs to the horn relay and one to the junction behind the battery. To me this sounds like the same point but is suppose to put a small amount of current to the amp gauge. This being the case I should be able to measure battery voltage from each wire to ground.
No one has a schematic of the ralley gauge wiring.

You may have this backwards. '67 instruments all had black faces with white or orange pointers; instruments, tachs, clocks.
'68's had the steel blue faces.

Salmon38, Thanks... I guess I did have it backwards. It's the 160 speedo so it's got to be correct for 68.
Rohrt, I found a solution for the amp meter hook up with rally gauges and internal regulated alt. American autowire sells two special wires for this hook up, they are specific lengths with resistors built in. I have a diagram I could send you if interested.

I might be. I still want to look into the set up I have first.
I put two new wires in for the ammeter with fusable links, one runs to the horn relay the other spliced in to the green wire on the external regulator. Works just fine.
You are right the battery JB and horn relay are the same points, and won't work.
This is the solution I found from AA. You would need to purchase the three wires and two junction boxes from them (less than $20)to hook up to stock gauges.
