Trying to figure out the correct wiring formation of the tail-lights?? Anyone have a 67 they can go identify colors & connections, then report back? The concern I have is the passenger side.
I have the harness coming back along driverside containing Yellow/Black/Light-Green/Brown/Dark-Green.
Yellow & Black split off into left tail-lens. Another yellow & black split off into the inner-left tail-lens. Light Green to the back-up lights. The light green wires that are attached to the back up lights aren't connected, I have them wired to a toggle via different wiring straight from fusebox. Somehow the reverse lights weren't operating in conjunction with my shifter being in reverse
Then I have only 2 wires (the dark-green wire and the brown wire) coming on the other side, I split each of those into both of the sockets. Again, the back up light on this side is same as the other side.
Lastly, in order to get the tail-lights, hazards and brake lights all functional, I had to take another spare wire and splice it in the dark-green from passenger side into the yellow on the inner driver side socket.
That is my story, just wondering if that is the way to go or am I mis-wired? Thing is, my turn signals don't work, which makes me believe I am mis-wired. That might be a different thread soon. Thanks for your input.
I will tackle one piece of this. I will bet you that your neutral safety switch (which also signals you are in reverse) is broken or missing.
I know there is a ground wire for the rear light harness that I think screws to the reinforcement panel that surrounds the gas tank inlet inside the trunk. Without it grounded - you are going to have problems.
That harness also has the wire to the rear license plate light and gas tank sender.
Sounds like you may need to replace the entire rear light harness.

Light green is indeed for the reverse lights. Brown is tail lights in general. Yellow is turn signal left side, dark green is turn signal right side. Black should be ground.
If yours is indeed wired yellow and black as you described (not just dirty discolored brown), then I would indeed replace the harness as it has been hacked up pretty good.

I have seen a few of those harness on 67-68 cars all melted together underneath the left scuff panel, check all your grounds first and then start at the front and trace it all the way to the back looking for pinched or smoked wires. A new harness is not that expensive and sometime the only way to go!
Thanks for that response, I just wonder why i had to splice the dark green from pass side to the yellow on drivers side to get everything to work properly. ? Had I not, only 1 of the sockets flashed with the hazards and one had a solid brake light.

Back then I had site access from work. It's lock out now as the network security setting is set too high. I can't stay logged in.
