Yea! Indiana finally got a year of manufacture program sometime last year and I finally got around to getting a State Trooper to sign my paperwork.

Got all set up to do this in Texas (got plates, restored them) and then moved to OK.
Here's it's much tougher to find plates as back then they were assigned by county. Trying to find one in nice shape for my year for my county is proving to be tough.
I did get a cool matching front plate celebrating that an OK lady won the Miss America title in 1967. That will look cool at shows.

Well, if you can find any plate, you can always get it put back into shape. I sent my pair of old rusted and bent black and yellow California plates to www.tagdr.com and the guy worked magic on them. They came back looking better than brand new. The guy does AMAZING work. I think he put a picture of my car's rear with the plate on it on his photo page.. lol Anyway, its great if you can find a good condition plate, but if you cant, you can always pay to have it restored. And if you go the restore route, I would recommend TagDr.com based on first hand experience by myself and bout 4 of my other friends.

Several years ago I picked up a "brand new" 1968 Kansas plate that was never issued at a swap meet for my bird once it's ready for the road again. Even from my home county!

Might check EBay. Picked up a set of 1967 Virginia NOS plates for around $60 dollars. Still had the original DMV paperwork with them. One caution before you buy, make sure the number is not used by someone else. Apparently this issue has come up and the DMV in Virginia denied registering the plate. I called ahead before purchasing from EBay.

I went to his competitor out of PA, Daryl's Plates with my CA Black/Yellow pair. Sure they are beautiful and cost me about the same - BUT IT TOOK HIM 3 YEARS TO FIX THEM.

Ah, good ol' Daryl's plates.. I have heard horror stories about him and the speed at which he works. Just as you said, others have told me that the final product is nice, but it takes over a year or more to get your plates back.
Rod over at TagDr told me he would have my plates for about 6 weeks and he had them back to me in four. My other friends that have used him all had their plates back in a 4-6 week period. He also sends you pictures as he works on them. He sends pictures to you once they are blasted in their bare metal form and communicates with you via email as he progresses on your plates.
Again, I was VERY pleased with him and highly recommend him to anyone getting plates restored.

"Daryl's" and "speed" should NOT be used in the same paragraph. 3 years of his wife telling me "I should have them in a week". My wife was convinced I would either never see them again, or would have to travel to eastern PA to go get them.

Hey Salmon38,
If you are looking for a particular plate, keep an eye on his "store" link as he sells some plates too. A quick look shows a handful of Oklahoma plates, but I dont know if they are the kind you are looking for. Good luck!

Thanks. I have doing the same thing and had all those site bookmarked for daily checks except for the PL8S.com one. So I added it.
It just a tough search for a plate from the one county that I live in. Cleveland or CL-XXXX
It only took me about 2 weeks to find a nice set of '67 Texas plates

I think I remember reading something about you can't have a reconditioned/restored plate in Indiana, it must be original.
I have two in good condition, just a little yellowed.
Indiana does by county too, but it just has to be from Indiana to be valid.

We've had YOM plates allowed here in Ontario for some years now, but the greatest difficulty is locating plates with numbers not in current use (the rules say they must have been unused for at least a year). The other problem is that many of the number combinations originally issued for automobile plates have now been assigned to other kinds of plates, such as trailers and snowmobiles. I have about six sets of 1965 plates, including one band new set, but none of the numbers were usable as they were currently assigned to other types of vehicles. I was ultimately lucky enought to find a pair in good condition with usable numbers and had them registered for my '65 Vette. Ontario doesn't restrict 'restored' plates, although you have to send the plates to the Transportation Ministry for their approval as to colour/configuration/condition.
If significantly different from current plates in colours etc, they really add to a restoration.

Salmon-At the Turkey Run there was a couple of different guys selling old plates. They all had the magic number of $25. They all even guaranteed that the plates would work. I found a guys card and his name is Richard Collins his phone number is 941-545-3558. He had boxes of plates from every state.

My plate decided it was tired of following us around and made a break for it. I managed to locate it, but not before it was mangled. The corner was completed folded over as was the top. www.vintageplaterestoration.com restored it to new. Highly recommend them.
