You have been part of this board for quite a while - I'm thinking that you HAVE to realize with today's post Barrett-Jackson muscle car rates, regardless of the Great Recession, you are going to have a really tough time finding something that does not need a lot of work for $7 K
Well maintained driver's are more like $15 K.

Thanks. Yep, I am really hoping to find a decent project, and have come across a few recently. I do miss having a 400, but right now, I do not mind picking a project up. As long as teh body is in good shape, I can work the rest. Basically a running rig woudl be a plus, and I am kicking myself for not having jumped quicker in the last couple of weeks. I missed on a 400 locally with great body for $4K, and this weekend on a built (550HP for $6500). I snoozed and lost them. getting the text from the seller that the car just sold was a swift kick in the... hmmm you get the point
I just sold my cruiser buggy (offroad) which had a 400 engine, and was my Bird fix fos some time. Now time to get back at it
I looked at one last night in Santa Clara, looked great on the pics, but needs lots of loving, and a lot of the body work redone. he was asking $9800, was more like a $5000, and agreed at $7300.. but I am still debating if it is worth all the hassle as pretty much everything has to be gone through.
I came across a 400 convertible project for about $8K and may be the route I will take. I am also waiting for some more pics of another 400 maroon $8500.
Well, you are in the right state for finding solid bodied cars. As long as they are truely been in CA their entire lives. My '67 400 was - I have the period correct black/yellow CA plates and the PHS documents to prove it. Several I looked at during my search in Dec 1997 were not.
I developed a CA license plate database where I can give you a pretty good idea if a local car is legit or not. So I could weed out the fakes. But I would spend the money for PHS docs before I would buy one.
PS, there were only about 1200 '67 400 coupes built for CA with the factory smog pumps.

I am starting to prep a 1967 firebird 4 speed car for paint! The body is in the best shape I have seen yet.. One little rust spot on the rear drivers lip of the quarter. Already working on fixing that! Then sanding the car and seal priming it then sanding it a coupe different times to get it perfect! The car was white originally with black interior. if I decoded it correct it had a front bench(long gone)console delete, a/c and pwr steering. Disc brakes were added along with a 12 bolt rear end (posi). I have a 10 bolt to make it more original if desired! They body has no other major damage and will clean up very nice. I might sell if my other 67 doesn't first! I will be putting the other one on e bay soon to see what she'll bring? I am building a few others also (69's). I have a 428 I am building to put in the white 67 If I keep Her? If interested email me speerclassicauto@msn.com Thanks Bill

I have a 1968 FB Sprint, with the factory configuration of 4.1 Litre 4BBL w/3-speed floor Hurst shifter and fold-down rear seat. It runs but needs to be restored. Body is dent-free with minor surface rust. Body is as straight as the day it was made (no joke). I might sell it on Ebay (along with my '67 400) but haven't decided yet.
