I bought this from a co-worker. 1969 Firebird 350 with a 4BBL edlebrock. He has had this car since he was 16. It is not perfect, it needs some small things. Drivers seat rebuilt, Wiper fixed on high, a few other little things I will take care of over time.
The front is setting up because he lowered the rear with 2" drop springs but did not get the front springs installed. That should be completed by the end of next week
Must have been tough for him to give up the car if he's had long...
"He has had this car since he was 16. "
--> you can't tell how long he's had it; maybe he is 17 now!
LOL
yup..... not enough info!he may still be 16....lol
anyway...good luck...if thats all it needs you are in GREAT shape....most of us had lots more to fix... I bought mine running condition 10 yrs ago, thought I`d be done in 6 months...took 6 years with "running resto".
what engine? original? Automatic/stick? non AC or AC car?
He is 30 now. I have a copy of the title he surrendered to me, it verified that he (it was in his dads name)owned the car since 96. His wife said they had their first date in that car. It was originally a Kentucky car, SUPPOSEDLY never driven except on sunny days. I found a copy of the Kentucky surrendered title in the glove box. According to P.O. that is actual mileage and he was the second owner. The body appears to be in immaculate shape.
The engine is the original 350 engine, rebuilt by the P.O. owner at some point. Factory A/C car but the compressor has been removed (he thinks he has it somewhere). Automatic floor console shift. Turbo 400 not confirmed - original ?
Plans are to lower the front (I have the new springs), maybe replace the transmission with a 700r or 200-r4 for the OD at highway speeds.
All you need is a set of 15" Rally II's, correct steering wheel and a nice set of FGF floor mats. Just my opinion of course (from a self admitted purist). Car looks very nice though, love the paint, looks really nice!
Yes, if it looks as nice up close, it is a great way to start with a fgf.

Spit Mountain Dew on my keyboard reading this. I was gonna have our car done in 6 months too. To funny!
Anyway, really nice car. Welcome. There is a wealth of knowledge here.
Yeah, when we bought our Bird in 2000, I told my wife, 2 years max and the car would be perfect. 10 years later and 20k later we were about 3/4 of the way there! LOL
We all know what you mean. We're all in the same boat. (except Bjorn, he's loaded!)

Great looking ride, I'm sure you'll find lots of "little things" to do to it over the years...
I can't believe I've had mine almost Ten years now! Luckily I've been on a tight budget over that time period and I'm still well under $10k including the purchase price with mine... but got a little closer to that mark trying to get ready for the Cannonbird Run in a few weeks...
I used to have a little sign that we would display on our Bird. It read: "This car was purchased, restored and maintained with money that was never spent on smoking". As my wife nor I have EVER smoked in our entire lives. This came about one time when we were talking to friends of ours at the time.
They asked us one night, "how can you guys afford to have such a nice classic car"? This from a couple where both were heavy smokers. I simply said to them, well, if you took the money that you and your wife piss away on cigarettes, and I began to do the simple math for them, I said, see, we choose this as a hobby and you choose that. After that night we have to this very day, never heard from them again. Honest & true story...

Good one! Maybe thats why I can afford one too, I quit smoking in 1976 .....my current wife quit 24 yrs ago.
See Joe, this is why we need you around for a long time! Posting entertaining stories every day.
I 100% agree with your analogy. Nice job.
I have learned over the years that it is useless to discuss smoking (or quitting smoking) with long time smokers.

Same here I use that line all the time, my wife and I don't smoke or drink and with me being a dairy farmer we don't take many holidays. My car is my relaxation and this feb when the lease is done on my wife's Nitro she will finally get her Mustang ,but we will buy this time and not lease.
Joe, I had a guy doing work at my house last week, and as he was standing in my kitchen, I made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I offered to make him one and he proceeded to tell me how bad peanut butter was as it is high in cholesterol. After lecturing me, he stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. I stood there for a few minutes thinking WTF!?!?!?!

I would have slabbed some penus butter on a slice and gave it to him roll and smoke!

Our Bird had a goofy wheel when we bought it. Pulled in the driveway, went in the house got my tools, came back out and pulled the wheel off. Wife asks me, "do you have another one to put on", I said no, she says, how we going to drive it without a wheel, I said we don't!
Went in the house, fired up Ebay on the PC, searched, found and bought the correct 68 Deluxe wheel on the spot. Few days later we had the correct wheel and went for a drive. LOL
During those days of waiting for the wheel, off came all the alluminum hoses under the hood, chrome fender supports, chrome air cleaner, bright green battery etc. And for the next 10 years it was search, buy and install correct/original parts. LOL
