No. And most '69s have a vent tube built into the tank (if the tank is original) that exits just under the top edge of the rear bumper just left of the license plate bracket. Most reproduction tanks do not have this vent, so it is essential that the fuel cap vents properly.
You can easily check your vented cap, if you don't mind a bit of gasoline flavored air. Be sure the cap is clean and dry, let it air out for a while. If you try to pull air through the port in the inside of the cap it should flow easily. If pushing air through, it should go, but not so freely (reducing sloshing of fuel out of the tank when full).

on my car its 'normal' as I dont have a return line (new tank), but if you hear that sound ,just remember to not park it full of gas in the hot weather...gas expands , blows the gasket to the sending unit..
thanks it is a new tank without a return line. Don't think it will ever have a full tank of gas though. Prob goes through a gallon on the way back. Wondering do they have a large reserve in the aftermarket tanks? Seems I never get more than 9.5 gallons in it when its on E.
I have a new tank, sender and guage on my 69. When I'm on empty I can only get 9 gallons or less in. I think the sender is way off. I was thinking of bending the arm on the sender so it sits lower in the tank. I just don't want to take the time to drop the tank again. Winter project? I also was getting a lot of vacuum when I removed my vented cap. I modified my cap so it is 100% vented.
