OK, finally got the timing cover off, and I must admit, I'm confused. Seems the eccentric is bolted on tightly, the little tab snugly in its retaining hole, so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is.
Like I said in my previous post, the fuel pump inserts too easily. It did push itself out when it was removed, and does pump when operated by hand, yet when the engine turns over, nothing happens. I removed the fuel line from the carb and stuck it in a 2 liter bottle so I could watch for any flow.
Are there perhaps different size eccentrics? This one is about 2 1/8 inches in diameter and about 5/8 thick. That's about all I can think of, that it's not making correct contact.
either the pump is installed incorrectly. ie the arm is on top of the eccentric instead of under it or the pump spring is worn out. there can be a blockage in the line.
That was my thought when I started the teardown, that I had installed the pump over the eccentric and damaged it somehow, doesn't appear to be the case.
There was a three-line pump on the car, I replaced it with a new two line(the inlet port pointed right at the block with the old one, putting a kink in the line), so I don't believe the pump is the problem.
I'll check lines tomorrow, hook up the compressor and make sure there's no blockage.
