I recently purchased the least expensive one from Classic. The directions say to attach it "skin" side facing the hood. However, if I do that, the pre-cut holes don't match up. They do match if I flip it over...
Maybe I think the wrong side is the "skin" side? So if anybody has one of these - which side should touch the hood? The part that looks like fiberglass, or the side that looks smooth.
If this is the 'folded up' version of hood insulation, you might as well throw it away now. You will be within a week or two anyhow.
The only version that is decent is the full size 'pre-moulded' version.
I can't believe they still sell the other version after so many complaints.
If yours is the pre-moulded one, the smoother side does go against the hood metal. The bottom side has a coarser, fiberglass look.

no I bought the folded one - it's made in USA. It has been on back-order for 2 months, so maybe it's better now???
also, I looked at the molded Chinese made one, and it was ripping apart just by inspecting it at Classic - that why I chose to go with the "folded" one.
so according to the moulded one, my holes are punched wrong, because the only way this will fit is if the smooth side faces the engine.
I went with the round ones that Classic and NPD claim are original and correct. However, I few posters said that they have only seen square ones on Firebirds and have square ones on their cars.
Once I know this is installing correctly or I return for a different one (but you said your's is the same), I'll update you on the clips.
I have square clips on both of mine, but I haven't seen a convincing article either way on originality.
The square clips on my '68 have been there since the early 70's, but that's as far back as I can prove.

She (Liz in sales) told me they make both the folded and molded one for Classic and NPD. But she said the molded one was also made in USA. The one I tried to by from Classic said "made in China".
I agree 10000%, if it's not the moulded one, toss it now and save yourself the aggravation.
As for the clips, my friend who is the original owner of his 68 GTO w/23k miles has the square clips on his and all of the DOCUMENTED original cars that I have ever seen had the square clips for what it's worth...
