can anyone direct me to an illustration of a 68 fuse panel, i took out all the fuses because there was a major short when i tried to start my carup, and all the lettering has faded, so i cant tell which fuse is for ignition etc

Most of the lettering on my panel is still legible, however it's not accurate! For example, the fuses above and below the courtesy lights lable (whatever it is) have no impact on those lights!

I don't know if it was re-wired, or whether it's not the original fuse panel, but the labels certainly aren't correct.

It takes some time, but I pulled the fuses one by one to see what they affected. You may wish to do the same, just to be sure you really know which circuits the fuses are protecting.

The lables in my fuse box were gone. However, I found an illustration in the owner's manual.
