I changed my distributor to hei. The pink wire on my 69 350 comesout of the bottom of the distributor and goes into the coil so its only 5 or 6 inches long . Is this the wire that needs to be changed to 12 gauge?
The way I do it: I use the a prong on the fuse box marked IGN. It should go on and off with the key. If you use the wire going to the coil you limit your HEI to 12 volt. That will work but the HEI works better with the full voltage coming from the alternator. Jim
Do I disconnect the pink wire coming from the bottom of the distributor to the coil, then run a wire form where the pink wire plugs into the coil to the ign.prong on the fuse block? Do I leave the pink wire attached to the bottom of the distributor?
You run a wire fom the IGN prong on the fuse box to the positive prong on your HEI. It will be marked BATT. Remove the old coil. Do not use(tape off) old wiring to coil. Jim
Which prong is the IGN prong. On my 68, I can't find one that says IGN. I have 3 prongs going down the center of the fuse box and 1 in the lower left hand corner. Can I use any of these to run to the HEI?
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I currently have an HEI, but I just tapped into the wire before the ballast resistor on the firewall. It seems to work fine, but I think I'll try going directly to the fuse box and see if it's any better.
