I came upon a man trying to get rid of a 67 Sprint Coupe and 69 FB Vert (in my quest to save old verts from certain decay and ruin on family farms).

I will show you picks next week. Towards the end of our meeting he tells me he can get his hands on a 67/68 FB 400ci engine for nothing! I told him to get it.

The next day he goes to town to get the engine. He was told it had already been sent to the steel wrecker!

Can we have a moment of silence in remembrance for this lost block...

Gus, I know ow you feel, however, from my experience Pontiac blocks as a whole are still pretty common place. I know a guy who has aprox 10 of them in his back yard. He's tried to sell them on CL to no avail, and quite cheap to boot. CL has TONS of them down here, just have to look daily, they pop up all the time...

CL up here has tons of pontiac parts on it all the time. Just have to wait for exactly what you want. Right now there are 4 67-68 birds for sale locally. I am going to look at a 69 coupe that my hood came off of with hopes of getting a good deal. Already did a quick body tag search here to see what exactly it was. Guy seems motivated to sell. I am willing to help him with that problem.

thats how i got a 350 short block in my garage now...the guy was going to throw it away, i figured i that it atleast i can use some parts..

I agree there are a lot of 400's around but they only produced 18k of them each in 68 and 67.

Its not like thier still being made...

Well, actually they are. Doesn't Kauffman now offer a brand new Pontiac block? Butler as well? There really are tons of them out there. Search CL sometime and you'll find TONS of them out there...

But not many people need a super hd bare block thats costs $3000.

theres one on the market for 1250$ already prepped. forget who makes it but a guy who comes to the swaps here lugz one around everywhere he goes!! he'll build it however you want him 2 and overbore it if need be. however there r 3 complete engines on ebay right now for under 1000$ one is in chicago for 315.00$ no reserve auction. ad states in running condition!!
