Hi -

Planning on putting in a headliner and I want to make sure my parts list is complete. I'll hire someone to install the headliner b/c I understand it's quite the task. It's a 68 coupe, standard interior.

My interior is completely empty, but I do still have all original bows (5 I think...right?). The little plastic clips are very old and cracked, so I'll replace those.

Here is my shopping list - please add/edit/comment. I found nearly everything at Ames, but if there is a different source, please comment.

Standard Headliner
Headliner Bow Clips
Sail Panels
Headliner Molding Kit (Inner windshield trim, inner rear windown trim, side moldings) (does this have all the trim pieces I need?)
Inner Windshield Pillar Molding

What am I missing?

Also - Does anyone have the metal trim in the inner lower corners of the rear window? At the back corners of the package tray. I think I have one that I can salvage, but the other is missing. I need to check if I need right or left.

Thanks!

It really is not the hard of a job to do yourself. Put one in a 65 Mustang and it turned out great. The one trick I did was get about 60 small binder clips to hold it in place before you set the glue. Had only a small few wrinkles that came out very easy with a hair dryer. I would reconsider if they want to charge you alot.

Thanks for the tip - I might be willing to try it myself.

Any other have thoughts about this parts list?

JMC,

Keep us updated on this thread. I'm in the same boat on my other bird. Interior is mostly gutted.

Much easier to do if the windshield and rear glass is out!

No matter what anyone tells you, do not install the headliner with the windshield/rear installed. It is far easier to put it in and then reinstall the two pieces of glass. Plus, I have seen many headliners pull out that were not stuck behind the glass molding. I'm sure it can be done but I have seen too many poorly installed ones to justify not pulling the glass. With the glasses out you can use my binder clip idea and get the thing looking pretty good without applying any glue. It allows you the time to make sure all the bows are properly position and everything lines up. After you get it in place with 60+ binder clips, apply the glue and you are good to go.
