While I'm not overly concerned about factory original, I have nothing but respect for the folks that take the time and effort to do it right.
That being said, I do appreciate documentation and relics from the car's past.
Frinstance, I was lucky enough to find the Body Broadcast Sheet under the back seat:
I keep it in a plastic sleeve inside a three-ring binder, along with pictures, receipts, registrations, etc.
I also did rubbings of the buck tag and used the VIN analyzer on this site! Found it was originally Aegean blue with a black vinyl top.
I also have the owner's manual for my Mustang:
With the original owner's name typed in by the dealer:
When I disassembled it, I found some Faygo bottle caps inside the quarter panels- OLD ones, bent by a church key with the cork gasket inside it. I'm guessing they were tossed in at lunchtime at the San Jose plant! I kept those too.
I have: - original window sticker - Body Broadcast Copy - Pontiac Owner Warrentee Protec-O-Plate (embossed card) - Original Warrentee Protection Plan booklet - first license plates on it in 1968 - my 1969 bill of sale - Original Owner's manual - Original Service and BBF Manuals I ordered in early 70s - Almost all service records since 1969 - My bank installment book with each (30) month's payment stamp through being paid off 8/71. - and quite a few pictures of the car throughout its (and our) lives.
Somewhere I have the gob of solder that dripped down off of the body seam onto the trunk floor where it was then splatter painted when the trunk was finished. It eventually loosened and was sliding around the trunk so I took it out. It is a couple of ounces at least. I searched all over for the broadcast sheet or anything else of interest without any luck.
i have not pulled the back seat out yet , but i hope that the ( holy grail ) broad cast sheet is there. i have the original owners manual , protect-o plate , maintenance and mileage recorded from 1976 to the time i bought it. i also have the dealer ship tag frames that the car was purchased from , and California black plates that came with it .
Jim, very cool. You're unusual for two reasons- obviously, owning the car for that long, but also for having the foresight to save all that stuff. Too often and too easy it just gets tossed.
pedlondarite, there was a bunch of little stuff in mine too- coins, bottlecaps & such. Strangest was the little mouse skeleton.
bird of fire69, my Mustang is a California black plate car. When I cleaned and repainted them, I scraped the sticker pile down and got all the way back to 1965- about a quarter inch of stickers!
And the glovebox is still locked. I don't have a key for it, and haven't gotten around to breaking into it! Who knows what's in there?
next time you get one of those imitation credit cards in the mail, save it for a glove box opener. Slip it in the center top and you should be able to pop the latch with no damage.
