I have a 400 4sp car that I replaced my torn rag joint when I rebuit my 68 bird. Now I have a loud clunk when I turn my steering wheel all the way to each side. I have noticed that now my new rag joint is bent now and the pins do not touch the slots on the joint. I have tighten the bolts but they seem to want to loosen up. Any ideas what is wrong?
Did you replace the rag joint with a "universal" repair kit? If so, they are not worth the effort. Spend the $$ for the GM full rag joint replacement if you haven't already.
Check the splines inside the collars when you take it apart and my guess is it will be very much stripped out.
