I wasn't able to sell my bike for what I wanted to get for it so I traded it for this 1995 Harley Sportster. I traded it so a friend could have it since he thinks Harley is the only bike to ride. The paint job and handle bars are not my taste... well pretty much 1/2 of the bike is not my taste but he likes it and that is all that matters. It worked out cheaper on his end for me to trade the guy my bike and him pay me what I wanted for mine than what the guy wanted for his bike for cash. He is paying for parts also and get this.... I'm giving him free labor! I don't mind doing it since he buys me lunch from time to time. It has been sitting for 4 years but I got it running Sunday night, 1 week after I got it. Still have a whole list of stuff to do to make it road worthy though. I did a lot of scrubbing on it tonight, still needs some more I think. He has a new exhaust coming in so I need to get it tuned just right so I don't blue the new pipes!
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Ya, my 25 yr old 14hp Kohler doesnt want to start for some reason. Have spark and fuel. Grounds are good. Havent felt like mess'n with it. Been use'n my 20hp Kohler. Hmmm...think last year one on the cable posts on the starter relay loosened up and had the same symptom???
Not sure if that would work too well being that I'm blind and deaf but I'm good with my hands!
I bet you say that to all the girls!

Hey, that's my line at the "club" we frequent. Funny how after going to the same "club" for three years, just how much you can get away with. Now that we have moved, it's even closer. My wife went for groceries the other day and was gone forever. When she got home I asked what took so long, she stopped at the "club" to say hi. LOL I'm not too sure there are many guys out there that can say that about their wives! LOL
We did some trouble shooting via Skype not too long ago. My wife went to Buffalo and took our old van, broke down in PA and jumped on the laptop and we Skyped. She pulled the dog house off and pointed the camera in the laptop at the engine etc. Ultiamtely had to have the van towed but still, it was a neat idea and it did allow us to trouble shoot the problem. LOL
I've got it running as of last Sunday and have it tuned pretty [censored] good as of tonight. I rode it around about 10 miles tonight. So far during this process I found this out.
1. It's slow 2. It's loud 3. Forward controls SUCK 4. Can't turn any faster than the posted speed limit because of the forward controls 5. It's ugly 6. It leaks oil 7. It vibrates and I'm not female 8. It doesn't have a tach 9. It doesn't have a low gas light 10. It doesn't have a gas gauge 11. It has a 2 gallon tank 12. It has mini ape hangers 13. My helmet doesn't match it 14. My jacket doesn't match it 15. I have to use blue locktite on everything 16. It has a vacuum petcock just like a XS11 Standard
Only thing good I can say is my friend is as giddy as a Catholic school girl and that's all that counts I guess.
So, what your saying is that the Sportster hasn't changed much since AMF sold HD back? If you need to retune it after that 10 miles, you just described the 72 Sporty I had 25+ years ago (minus the ape hangers). LOL
No, it just took a handful of trips through the neighborhood to get it running just right. In fact the idle mix was originally plugged because of emissions but someone already drilled that plug out so it made it easier for me!
