Was out in the garage last night and attempted to install the front wheel well trim only to find that it fits horribly. I attached it in the middle of the opening and tried to work my way towards each end. It seems like there isn't enough curve in them. The curve front to rear seems really good but they need to curve in towards the bottom on the front and rear of the opening. The rears from the same manufacturer fit just fine. Any ideas? Anyone have better luck with a specific manufacturer?
The repros aren't very good, got mine from Classic Ind. The aluminum is fairly soft and you kinda have to work it around the wheelhouse opening to fit. Also had to trim the end at the front of the opening...too long.
ended up slightly kinking mine! They were from year one many years ago. They look good, but I wanted to step on them at least 4 times! You will be bending them around the wells.
I have found that the aftermarket wheelwell trim is made for Camaro's. The rear is the same for both Firebird's and Camaro's but the front is different. I found a set of used front ones for my 69. You can make them fit but OK but the stock firebird trim is the way to go.
When I bought front wheel well trim for mine I bought originals...they were the same for Camaros...bought mine from Ricks first gen. Camaro, they still had some then....not sure if they still have any left
Go for it Larry, they look fine once on, despite the ends being a bit off....and the lip return a bit short (I had to black out the showing body lip that was red...)

I bought a set of GM maro wheel trim back in the day and was only able to use the rear pair. There was no way the fronts were going to work. Maros have a totally different shape to the opening. Plus they have those fender extension things in the front that the parking lights are in. I've still got em if anybody knows someone looking. They've been hanging in the window so long the blue and white wrapper rotted off of them. The fronts I bought from Pontiac were $26 a piece in '82. I about sh(t my pants. That was like a whole weeks paycheck for me for the pair.
Yes they are the ones on the car in the picture. They seem to need more curve towards the middle of the car. Like they were made for a straighter fender.
just checked Ricks catalog, no more orig 69s left over, but some 67-68s...for 69s only repros available now...they are skinnier , dont have the wide 'lip' on the inside....but it looks like ,in the picture, the 67,68s are the wider type....and theres no mentioning of Camaro , vs Firebird....they should be fitting the same? at least for 69s ?
The ones I bought for my '67 were actually pretty decent. I started on one end to properly fit the bottom to the small body sculpture near the rocker panel and moved up and around in a clockwise fashion. When I got to the end it actually lined up better than I expected.
The was some hangover left and I just hammered it up and underneath the bottom of the quarter panel.
