Time for new rear tires and I want to put the largest ones possible without rub. I presently have 235/60R15 on 7" rally two wheels on all four. I'd like to put 275/60R15 on the rear. Does anyone have these on there car with stock springs and shocks without rolling the wheel well lip or any other mods? If so what width wheel and backspacing are you using. Thanks for any help. Al.
Larry, Is the car all stock back there and what backspacing are the wheels? What brand of tire are you using? I can't find any 265/60R15 BFGs only 255 and 275.
Bronze bird. Without the Air Shocks do the 255 rub at the fender or at the suspension or both?
Mine will rub at the fender...I'm not going to roll the edges. They don't rub on the inner side...there's room there. Thats why I asked what rims Larry is using. I think the Cragar SS's are 4-1/4" backspace.
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
Same here, I have a lot of room inboard, just need a few wheels with different backspace to try. I don't know if an auto wrecker would have any of different B/S or not.
15.7 or 15x8 with 4.5" back spaced rims. Your Pontiac rear is wider than the Camaro rear by 1" over all width. So you will need to add more negative back spacing to the rims. Only way you can do that is to get new or another set of rear rims. Good luck. Jim
try a wheel place. i went to one that said if i brought the car in, they would put different rims on to find the right back spacing. i put on rear discs so mine will be a little different. but i haven't got there yet
Jim, So you have 275/60R15 on 4.5 BS wheels and no rub on a stock car? Al.
Worked ok on mine but suspension was stiffer then stock. If i get time this weekend, try'm on with 15x7 rallys, but my current 68 has super stiff suspenion.
What year is your car? Does the 67 have a little more room because the axle bump stop is in the center and doesn't have one on each frame rail like the 68? Or do the rear axle bumpers and brackets get in the way at all? Mine are missing and I'm waiting for delivery of a set, the previous owner drag raced the car and may have taken them off to make room for the slicks??
67 and 68 clearance will be the same as far as I know. If there is enough clearance to bolt the tire and wheel on, once the suspension travels the interference on the inside will usually be between the tire and the inside wheel well.
Does the tire fit on the 7 inch wheel without much bulge in the sidewall? I read BFG recommends 7.5-9 inch for the 255. I also have 7 inch RallyII and would like to save the cost of buying two wider wheels for the rear. Do you know the back spacing? Thanks
