I have a 68 with a turbo 350 trans. I would like to install an aftermarket shifter such as the Hurst Quarterstick.
Does anyone have information on which shifter (b&m, hurst, etc) provides the best overall installation? What I am going for is a slightly non-stock look, but no where near a racing look. Basically something that is a quality product with a slightly aggressive look.
Are you running a console? IMO it will look much better if you are not using the console if you choose to use an aftermarket shifter. They always look hillbilly'd on there sitting on top of a console to me.
I have a Lokar shifter in my bird. Black lexan is what was used to mount the boot to the console using the existing screw holes for that held the original shifter bezel.
Has anyone used the B&M Console megashifter? Looks identical to the regular megashifter but with a lower profile height. Of all the auto shifters, I like this one the best (megashifter), its just too high and the Console Megashifter seems like the appropriate height.
David I had a console mega shifter in my 73 formula. The shifter cover plate is designed to fit in the 70-81 console and you have to modify a mounting plate from that plate to the console. It does look a little hodge-podge in my opinion. And cutting your console is unavoidable. If you knew someone who could custom make a new whole cover plate with a cnc machine out of aluminum you might be alright. But that might be expensive...

When the hole was cut in the tunnel it was made just big enough to get the linkage thru.
did you relocate the console when you did your shifter install? In the picture it looks as if your console is farther back in relation to your seats? I have a 67 console for my car but went with the universal megashifter. When I installed my shifter where I wanted it was farther back than where the original console would be located. So I have yet to reinstall my console.
I have a mate with a 69 Firebird convertible with a TH350 that has a B&M Quicksilver shifter in his car set in the center console. I think he used one from a 2nd gen car! It looks really good job too! I want to do the same to my 67 Firebird soon.
