It was not standard on all cars. It is still a little bit of a mystery, I think, but mostly it came with the custom trim option. Does your glove box door have the firebird emblem on it?

thanks for the help . my car has standard interior with bird on glove box door and no handle it is supose to be orignal 400 car . i just wanted to find out if everyone elses had the handle. thanks again,tony

Checked my PHS sheets for my 69, no mention of an "oh sh*t" handle as an option, must be an optional option...lol my car had the handle, but no mention of it ,except "de luxe pkg" if it could have been part of it. I do have a bird on the glove box ,but I added it....
I will not comment for the '67 but the '68 Sales Guide shows the dash grab bar as a feature of the Custom Trim Option. Although..... it also incorrectly shows the glove box bird door emblem as a feature. Not all custom equipped Birds got the emblem. Its presence or lack of is another mystery.
