1)what kind of carbs are you running on yours cars? reason i ask is because i have a chance to buy an original quadra-jet for my car and i dont know if i should make the investment of buying it and then having it rebuild or should i buy just an aftermaket one? 2)how many of you guys are running repro 400 steel hoods and how is the fit and finish? should i try finding an original? 3)And on the hood scoops i want buy open hood scoops and i see that they sell metal ones and fiberglass ones which ones do you guys recommend? 4)where is the best source to buy the hood scoops? thanks in advance
It depends on what you are going to spend on the Q-Jet and how much to rebuild - I don't think $400-500 for carb and correct rebuild is too much if it is correct for your application. The stock Ram Air III intake with Q-Jet is a good combination.
My 400 hoods are original so I can't address that part, but I know some of the other guys can. I recommend the metal hood scoops. I would purchase your scoops from your hood vendor as a set.
besides getting the hood scoops from my hood vendor where else can i get them from? well i am running a edlebrock performer intake and edlebrock 600 carb on a 400 what would it do me more justice?
my 400 ( 72 model in my 69) is run w a Holley 650, and runs great...you dont want too small a carb,...on the other hand you dont want too big either, bigger isnt always better...should be 'just right'///
open hood scoops is not doing you any good unless you have RamAir (and barely then...since it actually doesnt do THAT much...) unless you have RamAir , I`d keep them closed...after you paint them just paint the "open" area black and it looks open,, no need to get crud or water in therejust above the carb...Steel scoops recommended....
