Wanted a '69 Convertible 400. Condition somewhere between a basket-case and a show car. In other words, a nice car without any serious issues. Absolutely no rust allowed. Clear and clean title. Willing to pay cash for the right car right now.
Sorry, but no green or yellow cars. Black, Blue, White and maybe Red.
E-mail me details and some photo's of the interior, engine bay and exterior. E-mail: frankmk@msn.com
-1969 Firebird Convertible. (check) -clear title (check) -400 (do you want it to be an original Firebird-400 per PHS?, or is it ok to once be a 350 that was converted to a 400?; does it have to have the original 400 engine, or is non original 400 ok? -condition between a basket case and a show car... ? Thats quite a swing. Basket case could mean a junk yard car with no drivetrain that needs a complete rebuild. Basket case could mean all the parts are there, but you need to put it together. No major issues.. meaning engine, trans, brakes, ? Show car could mean Barret Jackson, or, it could mean a 20 footer car at the local car show. Do you mean... running, driving car, turn key and go, no problems? -No rust allowed... that automatically means an original west coast car, a car fully restored, an original survivor or a show car. -Colors... are you talking the original color, or the current color? So primer grey is not acceptable if all it needs is a final paint job? -Transmission.. automatic or stick?
And of course, do you want it to local to you or are you willing to ship/transport?
Finally, what price are you talking about? Prices can range greatly from the 5-6K local car that needs lots of work to the show cars in the 20K-40K, or higher if Barrett Jackson quality.
I only ask all these questions because there are a lot of cars out there, and the more you narrow it down, the easier it is to find it. If youre after a car that needs nothing, runs, drives, fully restored/original, no rust, 69 400 vert, be prepared to pay a lot more.
Sorry, I'm not very "specific", however, I thought I would see what is out there for sale and then decide if I want to go with that particular car.
Maybe I should also say, that I don't want a "resto-mod",(had an offer today for one) but a Bird that is "original" with some mild modifications would be, O.K..
The bird could be a "older restoration" or a original that needs some minor work, like brakes, new top, exhaust, tune-up, tires.
Would like to have the original interior without any rips or tears or one that has been replaced.
A good running engine that needs no serious repairs, like a re-build.
Paint condition, good and doesn't need a new paint job.
Everything on the car works, like all electrical and suspension is in good shape.
As far as price is concerned, I've seen these cars priced between (in the condition I'm looking for) listed or sold between $15K to $20K. So, it all depends.
Frank, your answers make it a lot easier for those of us who have these cars. For a restored, no rust, 69 Firebird 400 convertible, with newer interior, everything works, I think 20K is a starting point and it will likely go up from there.
I have an original California '69 vert, currently with a running 350-2v, with a correct vintage 400/400 sitting on stands that needs to be rebuilt and installed, plus all the other parts to make it a 400 setup (hood, hockey sticks, rally guages, etc.), and it needs paint as well.
Ive already got about 17K into mine, plus its going to need paint, engine/trans rebuilds, etc.. so that could turn out to be an additional 10-15K. So you can see how 15-20K is doable, but 20K-30k is probably more realistic for what you're after.
The big question is really... how much work do you want to do. If the answer is, not much, then plan on spending 20-30K.
And mine, even though I`m not ready to sell it, is a 'former 350' , cloned to a 400 9 yrs ago...then a running resto, another resto was done 2 owners ago about 18 years ago...car is not original, not orig color , now red with black deluxe interior ,was midnight green w dark green interior...engine runs great (was just in Colorado in August) had 9k on rebuild when I bought it, I have since put 30 k on it...car has won a few awards/prizes at different shows, is an automatic, is insured at $25k....have over $28 k in it, and I would not take under $20 k for it...its great toy . just to give you another idea

Sorry, Bjorn, I just can't see you without your toys. Are you sure you found the right house?
yup, think its the right house, BUT I managed to sweet talk my lady neighbor...2 glasses of wine...to rent me ne spot in her two car garage, as she only has one...and as I only move 300+ feet, it will still be in walking distance, even in hot Toexas...keeping both cars! So the TR6 ,as its the smaller, goes in her garage...
Do I hear Panama callin'? You can bring your 'bird down there...
thats at least 2 yrs away ,if it happens.....this is just the first step...sell, pocket some of proceeds , live in smaller house.....then , later, maybe another house (or rent one) in Panama...go back and forth a couple of years (if it takes that long) to see which we prefer ,then sell 'the other'....
